About me
QUALIFIED AND ACCREDITED COUNSELLOR, WORKING WITH ADULTS AND ADOLESCENTS
I support adults and adolescents struggling with a wide range of mental health challenges. I work both long term and short term and am happy to determine this alongside your individual needs. I am insured, hold an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate and renew my safeguarding training on a yearly basis.
As well as my own practice in Heathfield working with adults and adolescents, I also work as a secondary school counsellor in Battle. Previous to my current roles I worked long term with adults and adolescents for an agency in West Sussex, where I also held the role as Clinical Co-Lead for the Parent, Adolescent and Child Team.
I work collaboratively with my clients to decide which approaches will be most helpful. This ensures you feel heard and empowered in your therapeutic process. Ultimately, I am led by you and what you feel comfortable with (with the odd gentle challenge every now and then).
For further information about me, how I practice and how I can support you, please feel free to take a look at my website: www.kellypearsontherapy.co.uk.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I abide by their ethical framework and receive regular supervision to ensure I practice safely. I have completed 5 years foundational training to attain the following qualifications:
Advanced Specialist Training in Counselling Children & Young People (L5 CPCAB - Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body)
Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - Person-Centred (L4 CPCAB) - 2 Years
Certificate in Counselling Studies (L3 CPCAB)
Certificate in Counselling Skills (Westminster Pastoral Foundation - Psychodynamic)
I am dedicated to my own ongoing learning, not only to meet the professional requirements of my registration but for my own personal development. I hold the view that by continuing to grow and challenge myself, I am better placed to co-create a solid, therapeutic relationship with my clients.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
