About me

Hello, my name is Karin, I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I truly believe in the power of talking therapies as a way to explore, identify and resolve personal or psychological difficulties. I offer a private and confidential counselling practice for individuals and couples facing challenging issues or difficulties, relationship issues, or overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, and I will work with you to gain clarity and achieve your desired outcome.

How can counselling help?

We all have times when we feel overwhelmed with life or we struggle with the issues that arise from our relationships, our work or our past. There are times when we recognise that something isn't right and we feel out of sorts, but we can't put our finger on the problem, or we sense a general dissatisfaction with life. We may struggle with poor mental health, experiencing anxiety, depression or low moods. Sometimes we just need to be listened to, to be heard, to tell our story. I believe that when we have the opportunity to explore what troubles us, to be supported and guided through the process of counselling, by an experienced therapist, we take a positive step towards a better life.

My approach

I take an integrative approach, using the main principles of person-centred therapy and pulling in elements of other therapeutic models, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and attachment theory, depending on the needs of each individual client.

Our first session together is an opportunity to discuss your needs, identify the issue that brought you to this moment, clarify what you would like to gain from the sessions and work together to agree next steps. I am a warm, open and approachable person and I truly believe in the power of connection and the benefits that come from a positive therapeutic relationship. I will work to build a connection with you and to truly understand your perspective, so that we can move forward together, in a way that ensures you feel supported, safe and comfortable to trust in me.

I can offer short term solution focused therapy where we work together for a limited number of sessions or can offer an open-ended number of sessions, to allow you to progress at your own pace and explore more long standing issues. I will always aim to take a flexible and adaptable approach, based on your needs and circumstances.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
