About me

Hello, my name is Karin, I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society  (MNCPS). I truly believe in the power of talking therapies as a way to explore, identify and resolve personal or psychological difficulties. I offer a private and confidential counselling practice for individuals and couples facing challenging issues or difficulties, relationship issues, or overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, and I will work with you to gain clarity and achieve your desired outcome.

How can counselling help?

We all have times when we feel overwhelmed with life or we struggle with the issues that arise from our relationships, our work or our past. There are times when we recognise that something isn't right and we feel out of sorts, but we can't put our finger on the problem, or we sense a general dissatisfaction with life. We may struggle with poor mental health, experiencing anxiety, depression or low moods. Sometimes we just need to be listened to, to be heard, to tell our story. I believe that when we have the opportunity to explore what troubles us, to be supported and guided through the process of counselling, by an experienced therapist, we take a positive step towards a better life.

My approach

I'm a straight talking, down-to-earth, person centred counsellor, deeply committed to helping others overcome their struggles.

Our first session together is an opportunity to discuss your needs, identify the issue that brought you to this moment, clarify what you would like to gain from the sessions and work together to agree next steps. I'm warm, open and approachable person and I truly believe in the power of connection and the benefits that come from a positive therapeutic relationship. I will work to build a connection with you and to truly understand your perspective, so that we can move forward together, in a way that ensures you feel supported, safe and comfortable to trust in me.

I take an integrative approach, using the main principles of person-centred therapy and pulling in elements of other therapeutic models, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and attachment theory, depending on the needs of each individual client.

I can offer short term solution focused therapy where we work together for a limited number of sessions or can offer an open-ended number of sessions, to allow you to progress at your own pace and explore more long standing issues. I will always aim to take a flexible and adaptable approach, based on your needs and circumstances.
