About me

Sometimes it can be hard to find the right counsellor, especially if you are feeling lost, anxious, low or completely overwhelmed by life. The process of finding someone who you feel comfortable with can be confusing and perhaps a little daunting and yet it is so important to find the right person for you.  I hope this goes some way to helping you making that decision.

Something may have happened in your life such as a loss, a traumatic event, a relationship breakdown, or you may just feel you have ‘lost’ yourself along the way. Perhaps you feel lonely, confused, trapped or in complete despair?

When you are at your most vulnerable it is even more important to find someone you can trust with your innermost thoughts and feelings. Many clients find the presence of my gentle whippet Wilson in the room with us helps them to relax and feel calmer as they speak.

Let me tell you a little about how I work:

You will be at the centre of our time together. My aim is to create a space with you where you feel you are being held by a ‘safe pair of hands’.  I welcome all the parts of you – the dark, painful and perhaps despairing parts as well as the hopeful and joyous parts.

You may want to look at how you can make changes in your life to move towards feeling calmer and more content or perhaps you want to get back to your ‘old self’ again.  Or you may find that you just need someone to talk to whilst you are going through a difficult time in your life.

How our sessions would work:
I offer face to face sessions in my cosy room in central Lewes. My gentle whippet, Wilson quietly sits in the room with us, or next to you if you find this helps

Next steps:

Firstly, we can set up a free initial phone call to talk about what you are experiencing and how I can help you.

If you would then like to meet me and explore further whether we could work together, then I offer an initial no obligation session for 50 minutes at the reduced rate of £40. This will give us both the space to see how we can work together and to help you make the right decision over who you choose to help you. Ongoing sessions are then charged at £60 for 50 mins.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counselling therapist in the Person Centred approach. As a former emergency services worker I learned that stress, anxiety and trauma form a much larger part of life than we imagine. Having someone you feel safe and comfortable to talk to is so important so that you do not feel you have to cope alone with your experiences. My experience as Samaritan means that I can be alongside you and accept whatever you might want to bring to our sessions in a calm and accepting way.

I hope this has helped explain a little about how I could help you but please contact me if you would like to find out more.

I look forward to meeting you.

Warm wishes,
Julie

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
