About me

Hi, I know it can be daunting reaching out for help, but sometimes we need to talk to someone who has no expectations of us and no judgements. It can be such a relief, to share what is going on for you. I offer you a friendly and warm environment and together we will explore your issues, to work towards you feeling in a happier place.

I specialise in working with people who have Binge Eating Disorder/Disordered Eating.  I can not diagnose you with an Eating Disorder but if your relationship with food is having a negative impact on your life then it might be worth exploring us working together.

You might relate to some of these:-

  • You eat alone, in secret, and avoid social eating
  • You eat large amount of food when you're not hungry, or after finishing a meal - you find it difficult to stop and it is distressing for you
  • You eat when you feel emotional
  • You eat really fast and mindless, you don't feel present when bingeing, you feel disconnected/out of control
  • You wake up thinking of food and it takes over your thoughts throughout the day, you struggle to remain present in your life and this has an impact on your relationships
  • You are constantly trying to diet and restrict food groups
  • You are constantly comparing yourself to others
  • You feel remorse, guilt and shame because of your binge eating
  • You struggle with your relationship with yourself, you have a very harsh inner voice and this can feel very loud
  • You struggle with low mood and low self esteem

If this sounds like you, please reach out, you really are not alone! I know it's hard to talk about this as you've probably been keeping it a secret. A lot of people who struggle with binge eating feel like they don't deserve the treatment, they aren't ill enough, that they just need to get a grip, have more willpower, but this is so untrue, this is most likely affecting every part of your life, it's a real problem, and it's not your fault, and you absolutely do deserve the treatment!!

You don't need to be diagnosed to know you are struggling with your relationship with food and you deserve to feel different!

I use CBT-E (enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy - specifically designed for Eating Disorder treatment). There are 4 different stages to this treatment.

  1. Stage One - We focus on understanding what is going on for you and together we work towards stabilising your eating pattern
  2. Stage 2 - Together we review your progress and plan the next stage
  3. Stage 3 - We work through what is going on for you emotionally, looking at the history of your eating struggles, we work through what is keeping your eating disorder going, we look at body image, comparing to others, self esteem, perfectionism, people pleasing, and anything else that is affecting you. This stage is personal to you, everyone's journey will be different
  4. Stage 4 - This is where we look at the future and how you can deal with any setbacks and how you can maintain the changes you have achieved

We would firstly meet for an 1.5 hour assessment, following this we would, on average work together for 20 weekly sessions.

Please get in touch and we can have a chat and see if this is something you would like to explore further.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
