About me

I am a Counsellor and Supervisor with 22 years experience. My aim is to help my client's understand the root cause of their difficulties. It is my belief that most of our emotional difficulties are rooted in our past and in order to live more successfully in the present and the future we first need to gain a clearer understanding of what has caused our current difficulties. Psychodynamic counselling can help to uncover patterns of behaviour and give us a greater sense of freedom to live our lives as we want, by changing the way we relate to others and changing the way we think and feel about ourselves.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified twenty three years ago, with a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling from the Central School of Counselling and Therapy in London. Since then I have undertaken training in a number of areas including Understanding Trauma (Principles and Practice) at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust as well as numerous workshops. Before establishing my private practice, I worked as a Bereavement Counsellor for five years, a young people’s counsellor for eight years and spent seven years in the corporate sector, working for an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), the last three years in management, offering short term counselling and specialist trauma / critical incident support. My particular areas of interest are working with bereavement, trauma and young people. I currently work in Private Practice as a Psychodynamic Counsellor and I also work for a number of EAP's as a specialist Trauma Responder, attending incidents across across the UK offering Psychological First Aid. Currently, I also manage a small counselling service for a Post Graduate Arts University in London.

I also have an MA (Distinction) in 'Psychodynamic Approaches to Working with Adolescents' from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and most recently in 2016, qualified as a Supervisor with a Diploma (Distinction) from the SAP (Society of Analytical Psychology). I offer Supervision in my private practice. I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and as such I adhere to its professional code of ethics. As a member of the BACP I have regular supervision and ongoing training to support my continual professional development.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
