About me

I became a therapist to help people because life can be hard, and it doesn’t always give us a chance to get our head around what’s happened to us. Therapy can help you make sense of whatever is going on for you and I feel really privileged that this is my job.

My practice

Who I am in the therapy room is who I am in day-to-day life, I hope to show up as my full self and I hope you will feel able to too. I strive to make my practice affirmative and inclusive because I often find that aspects of people’s identity affect their wellbeing. I take the responsibility to educate myself so that you can focus on what brought you to therapy.

I meet my clients where they are and as they are - I want to understand your experience, so I won’t make judgements or assumptions. This means that our sessions can be about anything that is on your mind that week – good or bad. I firmly believe that there is a place for humour, laughter and joy in therapy because you are more than the worst experiences you’ve had.

Person-centred therapy

I offer a professional, down-to-earth relationship to support you while you explore your emotions and experiences.

Person-centred therapy is guided by you - you can use the sessions to explore whatever you like at your own pace. I won’t pry or push you into talking about something you don’t want to talk about.

I don’t set homework and I don’t have a set of tools or techniques. Instead, I listen and together we build an understanding of what life is like for you, why you react to things in certain ways, and what (if anything) you would like to change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a member of the BACP and the Person-Centred Association. I have an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction) and my research focussed on body neutrality.

I have experience working with clients at all stages of their adult lives. I’ve worked with a number of issues such as grief, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, relationship issues, caring responsibilities, work-related stress, post-traumatic stress, neurodiversity, infertility and other health issues.

I have been a therapist for an NHS service and a mental health charity where I still volunteer. Prior to retraining as a therapist, I worked for a charity and before that I had many years working in the music, events and hospitality sectors.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I have a one-off flat rate of £25 for the first session.

In the first session you will be able to tell me a bit about what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. You’ll also be able to ask me any questions you have. This might involve talking about any needs or requirements you may have for the sessions.

At the end of the first session we’ll know whether we are a good fit. There is no pressure to commit to future sessions.

I offer concessionary rates on a sliding scale to students, unemployed or underemployed people, or for those struggling to keep up with the cost of living.
