About me

Therapy can help you to carry on when you feel that life is impossible.

Many of us feel low or vulnerable at some point in our lives, often when major changes impact us very deeply or when disturbing feelings and memories from our past - even from childhood - are suddenly reawakened in the here and now of our present.

Each of us has our own story to tell, and our  own particular reason for choosing therapy.  Perhaps  you are finding it hard to cope with the end of a relationship? Or feeling the pain of raw grief at losing a loved one? You may  have been living with painful feelings and thoughts for a long time, perhaps because of an unhappy relationship with parents or siblings - the effects of dysfunctional family relationships can build up over years, affecting your self-esteem and confidence.

Whatever is happening for you at the moment, I will provide a safe, confidential space for you to talk freely about the most difficult and intensely personal feelings or thoughts

You need to know that you can trust your therapist. I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and so will always abide by their ethical code of conduct.

In our therapy sessions, you will be able to talk about whatever you want without fear of being judged, safe in the knowledge that anything you tell me will be treated with complete confidence. As your therapist, I will listen to your own unique story without prejudice or judgment so that I can help you to look at your feelings in a way that makes them feel more bearable.

ARE YOU IN THE PERFORMING ARTS?

Do you work in the performing arts? Are beta-blockers a way of life for you?

I have had many years experience performing as a musician under high pressure and know just how devastating it can be when anxiety  and negative feelings take over and sabotage your efforts.

I can help you work through this anxiety, making it possible for you to become the performer you know you can be.

Training, qualifications & experience

Trained initially to work as a psychodynamic counsellor in counselling agencies. , I went on to complete my postgraduate diploma in psychodynamic psychotherapy  as a private practitioner. I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work private practice in the Barnet and Enfield areas, as well as offering remote online and telephone sessions.

My considerable former experience as a performing musician means that I am well-placed  to be able to help and make a real difference to anyone suffering from performance anxiety, whether be in the context of the performing arts, or in a corporate setting,  giving  talks in a high-pressure public setting.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
