About me

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my profile on Counselling Directory.  You have now taken that first step to empowering yourself to look after your mental health.

Whether you are new to counselling or have had counselling in the past, choosing the correct counsellor is the vital first step on your counselling journey.

I do recommend taking some time to explore all of your options and please ask questions and gain clarification on any areas you are unsure about. I am here to help and support you in that choice.

My personal goal of therapy is to help my clients achieve their goals and work alongside them until they are ready to move forward with their lives without therapy.  As each client is unique there is no 'one size fits all' so I adapt my work to suit the client's needs.

I hold a BA(Hons) in counselling (2012) and a Foundation Degree in Counselling (2008) I have recently achieved NCFE Level 2 qualifications in Understanding Domestic Abuse and Suicide and Self Harm Awareness.

My 'style' of counselling is considered 'integrative' which basically means I integrate a variety of counselling styles to suit the client. I find this a much better way of working with a client.

If we are struggling to get fit, we may book a Personal Trainer for guidance, motivation and support. If we want to improve our business we may employ a Business Coach to bring in new fresh ideas and opportunities to help grow the business.  It can be seen therefore, that bringing in professional help if we feel we need support with our mental health and also help change lives for the better.

Originally from a corporate background, I fully understand the stresses that can be experienced in the workplace.

I am now delighted to be back into the corporate world, but this time delivering workshops and online webinars, on a wide variety of mental health topics. My goal is to raise awareness so people can make an informed choice. If you are a business owner, or a manager, please contact me for more information on how I can help and support your staff to better mental health.

One of my goals is to encourage more men to take control of their mental health, and seek help if they need it. I endeavour to raise awareness of the benefits of mental health for all of us, and how we can let go of some of the old belief systems, stigma and conditioning from the past.

Pre and post qualification, I  undertook over 10 years counselling with Women's Aid, helping and supporting women who have been subject to domestic abuse (physical and emotional abuse) and childhood sexual abuse.

I have been working in private practice for over 20 years and love to help clients on a one to one basis.

I also have a deep interest in the 'mind/body' connection and how our thoughts, feelings and emotions can affect our physical health and wellbeing.

Your First session

At our first session I will take a short consultation to find out a little more about you, and the reason(s) you have contacted me. Together we set a plan of action for the goals you wish to achieve from your counselling. I adapt my sessions to work with the client's needs. Sessions are of one hour duration and each session fee is £52.

My current working hours are Tuesday to Friday. My first appointment is 09.30 am and my last appointment is 5.30 pm.  Unfortunately I am unable to work week-ends.

I have a private therapy room at the rear of my home, which has been designed to be both comfortable and calm. Fresh filtered or bottled water is always available.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
