About me

Hello!

If you are reading this then you are ready to take that first step to make positive changes in your life.

Whether you are new to counselling or had counselling in the past, choosing the correct counsellor is the vital first step on your counselling journey. I encourage you to book an initial consultation and session, and then decide if I am the right match for you. It is important for us both to feel comfortable working together. Counselling is not advice giving, diagnosis, or medical treatment, and does not replace support from a GP, psychiatrist, or other healthcare professional.

I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can talk openly and at your own pace. My passion is to work with you to help you feel safe, supported and understood, especially if you are navigating difficult life experiences, emotional distress or past traumas.

My initial training was based on the 'integrative' model, which basically means I cover a wide range of different counselling styles. I endeavour to tailor my work to meet your needs . You may have a certain impression of what counselling will be like and I hope to dispel some of the common beliefs or fears that you may have.

As an 'integrative' counsellor I now specialise in trauma-informed work, with extensive experience supporting those affected by abuse, trauma and complex emotional difficulties. My approach prioritises your safety, choice and empowerment, helping you regain a sense of control and wellbeing.

I may share with you tools tips and supporting information, to help you with your own personal development journey between sessions and to help you maximise their benefits of your sessions.

If you are ready, then the door to beginning counselling will open for you  It's taking the first step that can feel the hardest. As part of my initial training I had to undertake a minimum of 40 hours of personal therapy and I can still remember how daunting that was at the start but how beneficial it was as the sessions progressed. I feel it is important as a counsellor to have experienced being 'in the client's chair’,

In order to support my client caseload,  I see a supervisor for 90 minutes every month to enable me to discuss my client work (anonymously) and to take care of my own mental health, so I can be at my best to help you.

My personal goal of therapy is to help you achieve your goals and work alongside you until you are ready to move forward with your life . By exploring your hopes, dreams and goals of therapy will help me to tailor your sessions to suit your needs.

I achieved a Foundation Degree in Counselling in 2008 and a BA(Hons) in counselling in 2012. I continue to study post qualification, and I hold an  NCFE Level 2 qualifications in the following subjects:

Understanding Domestic Abuse
Suicide and Self Harm Awareness
Understanding Menopause in the Workplace.

I also deliver workshops and online webinars on a wide variety of mental health topics to corporate companies, including Rolls Royce, the NHS and Simply Health.. My passion is to raise awareness of mental health to business owners, managers and employees so they can be informed and educated on the importance of looking after their mental health.

If you are a business owner, or a manager, please contact me for more information on how I can help and support you and your staff towards raising mental health awareness.

One of my goals is to encourage more men to take control of their mental health, and seek help if they need it. I endeavour to raise awareness of the benefits of mental health for all of us, and how we can release some of the old belief systems, stigma and shame that can be linked to poor mental health in  the past.

I  have over 10 years with Peterborough Women's Aid, helping and supporting women who have been subject to domestic abuse (physical and emotional abuse) and childhood sexual abuse. I am also aware that domestic abuse can affect men too. If you are experiencing domestic abuse -  there is a way forward.

I also have a deep interest in the 'mind/body' connection and how our thoughts, feelings and emotions can affect our physical health and wellbeing, I endeavour to integrate this concept within my counselling sessions to help you make positive changes to both your mental and physical health.

Your initial session......

You can expect a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you are listened to with care and respect. Sessions are collaborative and paced to suit your individual needs, allowing you to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that feels manageable and supportive.

At your first session, we will spend some time understanding what has brought you to counselling and identifying the goals you would like to work towards. Together, we will review and adapt these goals as therapy progresses.

I am required to complete a short assessment form, and I will ask a few questions exploring what brought you to counselling, your medical history and any traumas you may have experienced. There will be a client agreement to sign, by both of us, acknowledging the terms and conditions of our sessions and how we can move forward with clear boundaries together.

Sessions are £60 per hour and at least 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session will be charged in full.

Peace of Mind....

All notes and forms are stored securely on the Kiku platform, and will be fully password protected. I am a member of Group Data Protection - and my Information Commissioner’s Office Group Data Protection number ZA78153

My BACP registered member number is 28122.

My aim is to help you build greater self-awareness, resilience and coping strategies, empowering you to make meaningful changes and move forward with increased confidence and wellbeing.

The first session can feel like a huge step to take, and I am here to help you overcome any barriers, fears or concerns you may have to help you unlock your true potential and live the life you truly deserve.

I have a private therapy room at the rear of my home, which has been designed to be both comfortable and calm. Fresh filtered or bottled water is always available. BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
