About me

Client testimonials speak more volumes:

" I found the sessions incredibly useful at reframing and understanding my
thoughts and the patterns of thinking and acting that led me to those
thoughts. I was keen to go back to childhood and adolescence when my dad
died to understand why I felt the way I did and I found the chair work
particularly helpful for tapping Into that."

"I processed (and continue to process) the grief I had suppressed from that time and have a better connection to my feelings in general, instead of pushing them down. I am putting myself first and finding more joy in the everyday- saying yes to things that serve me and no to things that don’t."

"Having never had therapy I didn't know where to start when looking for someone for my daughter and I to talk to, to help us communicate better. There are so many therapists out there and I am very glad that we selected you! You helped us see through the obstacles in our relationship, get some clarity, and gave us a safe space to talk through the challenges and reach solutions.
I found your style to be a lovely balance of being personable whilst challenging, being relatable and insightful. You were able to decipher our thought processes, make helpful suggestions about required changes in thinking and clarifying when boundaries are appropriate. I learned loads.
The time flew in every week, an hour was never long enough!!
Thanks for everything!!'

Feeling symptoms of anxiety? Sleep disturbed? Feeling depressed or intense sadness? Alone even though you're surrounded by people? Maybe a recent bereavement or building relationship difficulties? Sometimes it feels like no-one is able to actually listen and hear you without giving you their opinion or without trying to tell you that your feeling are not valid? Sometimes you feel like you don't want to talk about your problems with people who have their own problems as they seem worse than yours?

Making a time to focus on your own issues and be heard, have your feelings reflected and acknowledged by seeking some counselling time for yourself, is vital self-care and the best work you will do: making time for yourself.

I am a Person-Centred Emotion Focussed therapist and I work in an integrative way. This means you can talk about what you want to bring, and I work by listening actively and carefully, offering you some perspective on what you describe and help you identify what is going on for you, or what has happened to you and how this may be impacting how you are feeling today. Anxiety is a feeling that comes from other feelings. I then tailor the therapy to your individual needs, requirements and your goals.  I am skilled in many techniques, also using current neuroscience and psychological research to help you reduce your emotional distress, identify and reflect your behaviour patterns and thinking and with my support, help you regain control over your own life, as quickly and effectively as you want to make possible.

I am experienced in working with people who have had traumatic experiences and who have previously found these difficult to share. I specialise in childhood adversity and trauma for adults, I also work with young people and children.  Including ADHD and Autism.

I also use a relational approach and help clients focus on their relationships and the difficulties these can sometimes have. I will integrate varying techniques, bespoke to your needs including Emotion Focussed Therapy Chairwork, Somatic Experiencing to identify language you use with yourself and others which can help you transform your voice in difficult relationships. This impactful change can reduce your physical feelings of anxiety, empowering you to take control and feel BETTER quickly.

If you want to take that first step to feeling better, then please do give me call me on 07855629564.You can also reach me by emailing me here or take a look at my website for more details and contact links there. It may be the best thing you do for your own self-care today.

I see clients in-person in Glasgow city centre, in Stepps and also online.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

Just some of the feedback I have received

"I initially sought Joanne out for my anxiety ridden teenager, she had been prescribed propanol and I didn’t feel medicine was the best route for her. How right I was. A few months under Joanne’s counsel and the difference is palpable. I cannot describe how much these sessions have benefitted her and more importantly taught her how to manage her feelings moving forward. I cannot recommend this lady enough!"
