As an experienced Pluralistic Counsellor, I bring warmth, personality, and a grounded approach to my work. I am interested in your unique experience in this world and sessions with me encompass a thoughtful mix of curiosity, compassion, and respectful challenge. I strive to create a mindful, professional, and sensitive space for every individual I meet, no matter the duration of our contact.
Being a pluralistic counsellor means that I am trained in a variety of counselling modalities. This enables me to provide a personalised approach to each client which may adapt as therapy progresses and evolves organically to reflect your changing needs.
My specialties lie in neurodivergence (ADHD, autism), trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationships and parenting.
Whether you are struggling to feel understood by those around you or are struggling to understand others in your romantic or familial relationships, I am here to support you in exploring and identifying the dynamics at play. Together, we’ll develop a supportive relationship that helps you build confidence, establish clear boundaries, and create deeper connections with others.
P.S I have ADHD myself and appreciate the unique difficulties that living with the condition brings! I am passionate about helping clients and their loved ones understand neurodivergence on a deeper, more inclusive and compassionate level.
Counselling/Psychotherapy (Adults)
Many people come to counselling to work through specific challenges, while others seek a deeper understanding of themselves— by exploring their internal identity and through relation to others. You may feel that your life is generally fine, yet still have a desire to change certain aspects that bring discomfort or distress.
In a warm, non-judgemental space, I will listen attentively, helping you uncover the underlying meanings behind your thoughts and emotions, while gently reflecting on your patterns and choices to support your personal growth.
We go at your own pace and whether you’re dealing with anxiety, loneliness, confusion, anger, low self-esteem, depression, embarrassing problems or neurodivergence-specific challenges, I’m here to help you gain insight and support you in managing these experiences. I may also offer coping strategies and regulation tools where appropriate to resource you outside of sessions. However, my ultimate goal is for you to feel understood and less overwhelmed, knowing you’re not facing these challenges alone.
Counselling for Young People (14+)
Having worked as a Wellbeing Coach and Behaviour Mentor prior to counselling, I have extensive experience of working with adolescents with a wealth of presenting difficulties such as:
Anxiety
Depression
Self-Harm
Anger
Low confidence
School avoidance
Challenging behaviour
Low motivation
Trauma
ADHD
Autism
Going to see a counsellor can often come with mixed emotions for a young person, especially if their parent/teacher/supportive other has suggested they attend. Feeling like a problem, experiencing anxiety around having a counsellor picked for them and worrying about what counselling actually is can cause apprehension or resistance.
It is important that the young person has their own motivation to engage in counselling and we will establish this early on in the process. Generally, a first session will involve both parent and young person to facilitate a gentle introduction and create a focus for our work together.
My aim is to provide an inclusive and non-judgemental environment for your teen to explore their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. I may incorporate creative methods, develop coping strategies and gently challenge their thoughts to explore different perspectives and facilitate their emotional growth. Counselling is a collaborative process, and my goal is to promote independence, resilience and compassion in each young person I support.
Where neurodivergence is concerned, the sessions may incorporate education around their condition/s and focus on the development of strategies to better manage periods of stress and overwhelm.
I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can often feel daunting and vulnerable, and you may feel nervous or unsure about what to expect. I offer a no-obligation, initial consultation if you'd like to have a chat and see if we are a good fit. It will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It’s important that you feel safe and comfortable with your choice of counsellor.
I look forward to learning all about you,
Jess
