About me

Is anxiety holding you back? Are you struggling with low self esteem or no confidence in yourself? Do you worry too much?

If you’re looking to break your cycle of overthinking, tackle your anxiety or work through the emotions and beliefs that are holding you back then I’m here to help.

I work with people to help them understand their feelings and become less anxious, more confident and most importantly, more content.

Things like worry, panic attacks, stress, procrastination, people pleasing, imposter syndrome, low self confidence, shame and guilt come up a lot with my clients. My aim is to help you understand yourself better, to help you identify your needs, to work out your boundaries and be able to communicate them so that life becomes calmer for you.

Ecotherapy / Outdoor therapy / Nature therapy is my passion and I mostly work outside with clients - we’ll go for a walk in a woodlands or park and talk (sometimes known as walk and talk therapy).

You might find that it’s easier to talk whilst we’re walking, and feel less pressured than working indoors but at the core of my work is my training in person centred therapy meaning I’m focussed on your experiences and helping you make sense of what’s going on for you. Together we’ll find ways for you increase your confidence, understand yourself better and be kinder to yourself.

Being outside in nature brings a whole new dynamic to our work and for some of my clients they want to explore that - in particular to make sense of their feelings of anxiety or grief with regards to the climate crisis. If eco-anxiety or climate grief is something that is on your mind then I am happy to explore this with you.

As well as anxiety I work with clients with their depression, grief, isolation, neurodivergency, relationship breakdowns, stress, burnout ,work problems, family illness, ill health, stress, bereavements and chronic pain. I also absolutely love working with other counsellors and therapists!

Alongside weekly or fortnightly sessions I also offer one off appointments – or single session therapy. A longer session that can be a place for you to offload, a space to brain dump, a time to explore and be listened to and heard and for us to draw out important strands and areas of focus, all whilst roaming the countryside and often bringing in nature connection opportunities

Reaching out to a counsellor can be a huge, scary step particularly if you’re already feeling anxious and overwhelmed, I totally get that and can relate! I'm always honoured when people get in touch, just drop me a line and we can set up a time for a quick chat to see how I might be able to help you live a happier life.

Training, qualifications & experience

Since my original traininng (in Person-Centred and Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy at Glyndwr University) I've worked in a variety of different settings including working in charities and the third sector and have counselled many people at a variety of life stages: from young people through to those retired.

In 2017 I set up in private practice and throughout my work I have undertaken additional training so I can support you better on a whole host of topics: anger, loss, grief, shame, depression, life changes, neurodivergency (including Autism and ADHD) and much more.

In particular I've done further study on counselling outdoors, ecotherapy and nature therapy and most recently completed a supervision qualification. Currently my training interests are particularly around our emotions relating to climate change - such as ecogrief and climate anxiety - and I am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I'm an outdoor therapist so offer walk and walk, ecotherapy and nature based therapy. If you find the thought of sitting inside across a room with someone a bit overwhelming this can be a great alternative. There's lots of research about how being outdoors has a positive impact on our mental health, and working outside builds on this.

I also offer single session or one off appointments which are usually longer than a normal session and are an opportunity to get things off your chest, whilst also looking at understanding yourself better in a very focussed way.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

If you've questions about accessibility please do get in touch! I have various spots to work from, including those with paths suitable for wheelchairs / mobility aids and would like to help remove any barriers to accessing outdoor therapy where possible
