About me

Hello, I’m Jen and I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. Life can sometimes feel challenging, and things do not always work out the way we may have planned with everyday stresses and events easily becoming unmanageable. We all need support at some point in our lives to overcome difficulties. Counselling can provide you with the space to explore your thoughts and feelings and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain leading to a more positive outlook on life.

Issues I have worked with:

I have worked with clients on a broad range of issues including depression, low mood, anxiety, low confidence and self-esteem, childhood trauma, different types of abuse including emotional, physical, sexual, neglect and domestic abuse, bereavement, work related stress, relationship issues, family issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. My particular interests are working with young adults in their 20's and 30's experiencing any of the above issues.

My approach:

Although I am predominantly trained from a Person-Centred perspective, I can incorporate other approaches to suit the needs of my client such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Emotion Focussed Therapy. My integrative style allows me to adapt in accordance with your needs. I am able to offer both short and long term counselling.

How counselling can help:

I know that taking that first step and reaching out for help can feel daunting. I will do my upmost to offer you my genuine understanding, openness, and respect. I place great importance on providing a confidential non-judgemental safe space where you feel comfortable to explore problem areas in your life. I will work alongside you on your journey to help you to find resolutions and develop coping strategies. Counselling can also help you to develop a different perspective and identify the root cause of your problems, which can lead to a happier more fulfilling life.

I qualified as a social worker in 2013 and have many years experience of working for a local authority providing early help services to children and families as well as providing statutory services to children and families. I have also previously worked as an emotional health and wellbeing practitioner with children and young people. I have experience of counselling clients from a local mental health charity and have also provided counselling to children in schools through Place2Be.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
