About me

Are you aged between 12 and 25-years-old and struggling with your mental and emotional health? Do you need some counselling to help make sense of your life? If so, I could help. My name is Jeff and I have worked with young people in Devon and Cornwall since 2010 in variety of roles from youth worker, coach, mentor, trainer and now psychotherapeutic counsellor.

My counselling work is based on an integrative model which enables me to be flexible and responsive to your needs. All my work is rooted in trauma informed and shame sensitive practice where you can feel safe to explore your inner world.

Deciding if counselling is for you is a huge step to take but with warmth, empathy, compassion and acceptance, I will give you a safe space from which to make the choice that is right for you. If you feel counselling could really help in your circumstances, please make contact and let's see if I'm the right counsellor to help you.

Locations

I work with clients from across Devon and Cornwall including Plymouth, Tavistock, Saltash, Liskeard, Torpoint, Callington and Launceston and further afield. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs so we can get a better idea of if working together is suitable.

My practice is located in Tavistock, Devon but I also offer sessions out of Saltash, Cornwall.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a level 6 equivalent Diploma in Counselling Teenagers through the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. I also hold a MA Education and a BA (Hons) Youth Work.

I hold a Level 2 Safeguarding certificate; an enhanced DBS check; and professional indemnity insurance to ensure both yours and my safety throughout this journey.

I have worked in various roles directly with young people since 2010. I am skilled at engaging with and helping young people understand their world.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
