About me

Hello and welcome to my profile

My personal qualities of compassion, empathy and warmth, lead me to train to be a counsellor. I am a realist who understands that life isn't always easy. I am authentic and relational in my approach, which means I am myself, and look to build a relationship of trust and understanding with you. I will engage with you, not presenting as a blank screen. I am interested in people and believe we all want to connect to others; I am no exception; I am here to connect with you. I am here to get to know you, even the parts you may not like. I am here to get to know how you feel and will work to see your view of life.

About Counselling

For some people counselling can be a daunting thought, especially if it's your first experience of it. Sharing personal information with a stranger can feel scary; I understand this, and I am here to make your experience less frightening/daunting. I aim to give you a genuine, warm, compassionate, respectful, confidential experience of counselling, in a space which I have created with you in mind. We will meet once a week at the same time, which gives routine and stability when you are troubled. Our time together is 50 minutes, often called the 'counselling hour', it's enough time to be able to explore what's going on for you without overwhelming you. It's a place for you to unburden yourself with someone who understands and is strong enough to carry some of your load. I offer open ended counselling, which means I am here alongside you for as long as you want help. You decide when it's time to fly solo.

About life.

If life is a struggle, then I am here to be alongside you. Together we can explore your options to enable you to live the life you want. All of us at some point in our lives, will experience times when we feel less able to cope. This can impact relationships, work, studies and other areas of life. I understand that feelings of anxiety, depression, panic and anger can feel distressing; especially when thoughts play on a loop in your head. Talking to me can help bring understanding to your situation. I am trained to see the things that are not always clear for you to see. I am able to offer another perspective, choices, options and always hope.

If something is troubling you or you are feeling sad, alone, frightened, or worried by something, contact me so that I can help. Nothing is so big that it cannot be overcome. I have listed areas which I work in but if you see that whatever you are experiencing is not listed, please call as I am open to working with all life issues.

Counselling is about change. If there is an aspect of your life you would like to change, I can bring understanding and help you make the changes you desire.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I have worked to create a safe, warm, comfortable, private space for us to engage and work together on whatever is troubling you at this time of your life. I had you; my client, in my mind when creating this space. The walls are neutral to give a light and hopeful atmosphere. The colours simple to give a sense of calm. The textures of the cushions and sofa are soft and tactile, giving you the experience of a hug.

I am happy to discuss your counselling needs in person by appointment or by telephone. If you require more information before making up your mind about which counsellor to work with, please contact me. It is important to get the right counsellor for your needs. It is the Therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and your therapist); which can bring about the changes you are looking for.
