About me

Welcome! That first step in reaching out to someone can often be one of the hardest steps to take but can often be one of the most life changing. Have you experienced loss and have continuing feelings of guilt, shame and regret that are preventing you from allowing joy into your life? Are you paralysed by a fear of change that is preventing you from moving forward? Do you have an inner critic telling you that you are not good enough and that you will fail if you try? Do you feel that you are unable to live a life true to yourself? Do you find that you are continually thinking about the past or future that you are not enjoying the here and now? Are you much kinder to others than yourself? Then I can help.

As a person-centred counsellor also trained in mindfulness, I offer you a safe calming, empathic and compassionate space and encourage a relationship based upon mutual trust, and honesty. I can teach you Mindfulness skills and how to practice mindfulness skills in everyday life, allowing you to worry less and become more focused and able to manage difficult and challenging situations.    I am also trained in Low Intensity CBT and am able to support you to see the link between thoughts feelings and behaviours and to make changes within those areas.

I understand that change can be very anxiety provoking, it can involve taking a risk and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. I will be alongside you to support you in ‘letting go’ of those thoughts, feelings behaviours so that you are able to live with purpose and intent. I will support you in being able to recognise your inner strengths and resources to enable you to reach your full potential.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have spent many years working within the NHS first as a nurse and then as a Psychological Well being Practitioner within a Talking Therapy Service supporting people with a range of different difficulties including anxiety depression panic attacks phobia and trauma on a one to one basis and through the delivery of psycho-educational workshops.  I have also volunteered for Cruse as a bereavement support volunteer. These experiences have given me huge insights into the human condition and peoples vulnerabilities and strengths.

I am also an adoptee.  I acknowledge that each experience of adoption is unique to the adoptee however there are common threads of experience.  I  have enormous insight into the primal wound, disenfranchised grief and Post Traumatic growth gained from personal experience.

As well as having a diploma in therapeutic counselling with Mindfulness, I am also trained and have experience of delivering low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and solution focused therapy.

I have a Bsc (hons) in social policy and community work and a post Graduate Certificate in Mental health and Post Graduate certificate in Mental Health Practice in Primary Care. I also have a post Graduate Certificate in education (PGCE).  I am also a qualified BACP registered person counsellor and am trained in Mindfulness, and also have undertaken the Cruse bereavement  training.

I also do some sessional work as a counsellor for a local charitable organisation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
