Low mood and anxiety can take a hold and negatively impact every aspect of life.  By visiting this page, you have already taken the first step to improve your quality of life.  It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and I am here to support and empower you on that journey.

I welcome you to send me a message for further details or to schedule an appointment.  I look forward to connecting with you.

What to expect from our first session and the counselling process?

It is important to gain an understanding of what you want from counselling and to see if I am the right counsellor for you.  This is a process of building trust and feeling comfortable whilst working together and regularly reviewing the main area you want to work on.  The initial session is an assessment and further sessions are weekly however this is changeable depending on the individual needs as some prefer to work fortnightly.  I trust to help make your counselling experience a positive one which encompasses time for reflection, healing, inspiration and personal growth.  Please feel free to call or email me to make an appointment.

Area of interest:

I hold a particular interest in the effects of co-dependency - controlling relationships on individuals and relationships.  Depression, Anxiety (GAD), panic,  Low self-esteem, confidence building, assertiveness and working with teenagers (Young Adults).

Depression:

Low mood and depression can affect anyone at any time.  It can feel like being on autopilot.  You may not be able to pinpoint a particular reason that has led you to feel this way.  It may because of a major life event or change, such as a break down in a relationship, moving homes, changing jobs or bereavement for example.  Feeling depression is a personal experience, there are some common symptoms that people experience:

* Changes in appetite * Feeling down most or nearly everyday *Tiredness *Feeling worthless or guilty *Noticing negative thoughts* sleep problems or little interest or pleasure in daily routine or activities.

Depression can affect anyone that any age and make living life difficult.  I can work with you to look at what is happening and help you regain control and start enjoying life again.

Anxiety/Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

If you find that you notice you have been worrying excessively, it can be a sign of an anxiety problem call Generalised Anxiety Disorder or GAD for short.  Do you find you worry often and find this impacting your daily life, does it stop you doing things and have a negative effect on your mood?  When you have GAD, you can worry about everyday things like, relationships, health, finances, family and work.  Do you notice more tension in your body, more aches and pains, headaches, stomach problems as a result of worrying.  Does this lead you to avoid tasks, people and situations?  Do you put things off or over prepare things?  This can lead to a cycle of worry and anxiety.

Emotional Abuse/Co-dependency:

Do you have relationships where you tend to feel overly responsible for the other person?  Do you notice you make excuses for them and are self-critical and want things to be perfect?  Does fixing others make you feel needed?  Do you go out of your way to please others even when it means neglecting your own needs and wants?  Do you find it hard to say 'no' and set healthy boundaries, or ask for help?  Experiencing emotional abuse/Co-dependency can leave a person with low self-esteem.  I can work with you to feel secure in yourself and in your relationships and to develop and maintain healthy boundaries, so that you can change your co-dependent relationship to a loving, interdependent relationship.

The good news is I can help you work through the worry to improve your anxiety in easy steps.

Please leave a phone number when contacting me via email and check your junk box for responses.  I typically respond within 48 hours.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
