About me

I am a qualified BACP Accredited Counsellor and Family/Systemic Practitioner and I have been qualified for over twenty years. I offer a talking therapy and/or creative therapy to children, adults and young people.

My approach to counselling is ‘Client-Centred’ having been trained in a number of modalities; Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Existential, CBT and as a Family Systemic Practitioner. I believe it is firstly the relationship between counsellor and client(s) which provides the foundation to explore, understand, challenge and change patterns of behaviour which are causing relationship difficulties and personal distress.

I try to offer a positive environment in which together we can discover new insights and understanding. I call myself client-centred as I try to offer the therapy which ‘fits’ the needs of the client. This can be a talking therapy using different approaches of exploring the past and present or something more solution focussed depending on individual needs. Looking at how negative thought patterns may contribute to feelings and behaviours can often be insightful and when understood can open the door to making positive changes.

I use creative materials if this feels appropriate or helpful, both with adults and young people as I have found this to be a powerful and interesting way to gain understanding of our lives and ourselves. I also work with families and parts of families i.e parent and child, siblings or any members of the family who are seeking to understand and learn better ways of communicating together.

I am a qualified supervisor and offer clinical supervision on a one to one basis or in small groups (please contact me if you are looking to join or wish me to set up a new supervision group).

Additionally I organise low cost CPD for counsellors and therapists. Please visit www.ahhatherapies.com

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
