About me

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with a long established practice. I offer long and short term counselling and therapy.

Location

I am based in Childs Hill, NW London which is near Golders Green, Hampstead and Cricklewood. There is easy transport to Golders Green and Finchley Road tube stations as well as many busesalong the Finchley Road. Parking is also possible outside.

What I offer

People come to therapy when they are depressed, anxious and unhappy or find themselves repeating the same kind of difficulties, especially in relationships. The issues may be from the past, in the present, or worries about the future. I offer a confidential, non judgemental space in which these problems can be discussed freely and openly and new ways and perspectives can be found.

I have trained both as a psychodynamic counsellor and a Jungian Analyst. This means that I pay attention to the way attachments and repeating patterns from the past influence our choices as well as the relationship that develops between myself and my client. In addition, learning from neuroscience, I am especially interested in the emotional experience as it is felt in the body and the way in which we erect defences to protect ourselves from strong feelings thus limiting our capacity for being fully alive. Many people experience developmental trauma in childhood when repeated experiences create fear and distortion of normal emotional development even if on the surface their life may seem successful. I aim to help people improve their every day life and inner experience.

What to expect

We would arrange an initial consultation to see if this experience of therapy would feel right for you. We would normally then arrange weekly regular sessions so that a relationship of trust can be built. The sessions usually last for 50 minutes.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my training as a Psychodynamic Counsellor at WPF therapy in 1993 and as a Jungian analyst in 1998. More recently I have been learning more about the experiencing of feelings in the body and have been doing some further training in ISTDP which is a way of reaching core difficult feelings more quickly.

I have many years experience of working in the NHS, the Voluntary Sector and in private practice as well as in teaching and supervising both students and experienced practitioners.

I have particular experience of working in Bereavement, in an Eating Disorders Clinic and have worked for many years with doctors in Primary Care.

I am a member of BPC, UKCP and BACP and abide by stringent codes of ethics and confidentiality.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
