About me

I am a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor providing one to one counselling for anyone who feels that they could benefit from this type of support. I believe that counselling can help in so many ways. It can give you the opportunity to talk and feel heard without the inhibitions we can feel when worry of judgement gets in the way. Counselling can allow you to really look at the aspects of your life that you may struggle with. It provides the opportunity to explore thoughts, feelings and ways of behaving that can at times feel confusing and difficult. In doing so, things can become clearer, less troubling, and often a way forward begins to feel possible.

I work in a client led way, which simply means I believe you are able to find resolutions to problems in your life, it is just that events, complicated emotions, and a loss of belief in yourself are getting in the way. I see my role in this as a supportive rather than advisory one, and although I will always be working in a way that is grounded in well established and researched counselling theory, our work together will never involve me telling you what to do. Instead, I will work with you, supporting you in such a way that you can discover your own ways to make changes for the future, create alternative coping strategies for the present, and feel more resolved about lingering difficulties from your past.

I offer both long and short term counselling, as we all have such different needs. This is something I will explore with you in the initial session, and review along the way. I will always endeavour to work as flexibly as possible in terms of when the sessions take place and their regularity, so that your individual needs are met. I can offer some concessions to my fees for those who are on a low income or have a student status. I also provide a discount for trainee counsellors completing their required 40 hours.

I  welcome enquiries from all ages, 11 upwards.  After an initial phone consultation if you feel happy to proceed I will book in an initial assessment session to give you the opportunity to meet me and decide if you would like to work together. This is entirely your decision and there is never any obligation to continue. If I feel I do not have the appropriate skills and experience to offer you the support you need I will do my best to signpost you to a more suitable service or individual counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
