About me

I have a background of working in a caring role, and have always enjoyed supporting other people. My initial counselling training spanned 4 years and involved engaging in my own personal therapy, and so I have experience in sitting in the clients chair too, which I believe enhances my understanding of the therapeutic process and how it can feel to come for counselling.

In the 15 years that I have been a therapist, I have seen the positive impact that counselling can have. I feel strongly that counselling can be life changing and it feels an absolute privilege to sit with people and support them through difficult times in their lives.

My approach is based on both my training as an integrative counsellor and my intuition. The way that I work with you depends on what you hope to achieve from your time, and I tailor my approach to suit your needs.

I offer sessions via online video or telephone.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training to become a Humanistic counsellor began back in 2006, and I now have over 15 years experience in working as a counsellor.

Several of those years include experience of counselling in an educational setting, where I set up and ran a successful counselling service working with young people between the ages of 11 – 18 years old and adults.

I have a number of years experience as an NHS Associate counsellor, supporting a range of staff members in a hospital setting.

I started my private practice several years ago, and now offer counselling to individuals and in an EAP capacity to a number of different businesses and organisations.

I have trained in a number of different areas, including working with self-harming behaviours, anxiety disorders, bereavement and self esteem building.

Counsellors may use different approaches in their work with clients. Person Centred therapy is the theory that underpins my work, but I use an integrative approach which means I draw from many different counselling models, depending on the individual person and the issues they bring to therapy. I work in a way that suits your needs, and what you hope to get from counselling.

I am a fully registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I follow their code of conduct in my work as a therapist.

I engage in monthly clinical supervision with a qualified counselling supervisor which helps me to keep working in my clients best interests, and I regularly engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure that I continually improve and reflect on my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
