About me

Hello. My name is Gemma and I work as an integrative counsellor in North London. Life in this world can be fast-paced and demanding and I offer a warm, confidential, open-minded and empathic space to help us to slow down and work through the challenges we are experiencing, whatever these may be.

In my work so far I have worked with; Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Family issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Post-traumatic stress, Racial Identity and the impact of racism, Relationships, Self-esteem, Self-harm, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues and Work related issues.

As a therapist, I have a specific interest in racial identity, infertility and women's health.

It is important to me that I work within a culturally and socially sensitive framework, acknowledging the impact of the different experiences of the world we can have.

What you can expect from me.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on several theoretical models in psychotherapy. This allows me to really honour the fact that I believe different things work for different people and that there is no such thing as "one size fits all" in therapy.

I allow humanistic, psychodynamic, relational and somatic ways of working to inform me. This could mean that we explore the impact of experiences in your past and how they may impact you in the present. It may mean that we tune into our bodies and listen to what they may be telling us. Perhaps we will explore how we relate to each other and what awareness this might bring to how we relate to others outside of the therapy room. Or maybe we will work through the difficult and painful emotions you are currently experiencing. However it is that we come to work together, the therapeutic relationship can offer a way of looking at how we are in the world and explore how we might like to evolve and grow.

Ultimately, I believe that being truly heard can be a deeply healing experience and one that I strive to provide.

Asking for help can be a difficult process for anyone and with the stigma attached to mental health, coming to therapy can feel challenging. Like a lot of challenging things, it can also be an experience that offers growth, support and transformation and I look forward to working with you.

I currently offer sessions in person and online.  Evening sessions are online only.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer an initial free phone conversation of 15 minutes in order for us to begin to get to know each other and for you to be able to share briefly what it is that is bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have and also for me to think about how I may be able to support you.

Following this conversation we will book an initial session in which we will further explore what brings you to therapy, consider what it is you would like to get out of the experience and also for you to get a feeling of how it is that I work.

Should you decide to continue, we will arrange a regular weekly session.
