About me
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I'm a counsellor who is based in Ross Shire working from Alness and in Inverness. I work face to face in the location most accessible for you; I also work online and via the telephone which can make counselling easier to access in some circumstances.
Often life can feel overwhelming and you may feel isolated and unsure of which way to turn. You may feel disconnected from others or stuck in patterns of thoughts and cycles of behaviour that seem hard to break out of. My counselling offers you a safe, non judgemental space to be able to explore what is difficult and challenging for you. Counselling can give insight as to what is really going on within you and if we were to meet and start a conversation i would be curious to know about you and your world: What consumes your thoughts? What keeps you awake at night? How do you view yourself? What feelings do you have that make life difficult? Together we can look at what you might like to change and how that change might come about.
I offer counselling to both individuals and couples. In my couples work I use a framework which enables couples to gain an insight into their relationship they may not have considered before. Couples include: intimate partners; parents and "children", siblings, might even be two friends.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and have several years experience of counselling in various settings including alcohol and drug addiction; rape and sexual abuse; domestic violence to name but a few of the specialised areas. I have knowledge and experience of a broad range of many issues which affect us as human beings, from fertility issues to loss and grief stemming from death or the ending of relationships. Issues involving existential and spiritual crises are also of particular interest to me as they well may to you. My approach is about the whole person and will involve what ever concerns you as an individual. I'm a person who is committed to personal and professional development so i have regular supervision with an experienced supervisor and i undertake regular training and development.
Personal qualities: I am warm, caring and down to earth and I believe you will feel at ease with me which I know is important.
I enjoy working with a wide range of age groups. Young people between the age of 12 and 16 I'm happy to see in counselling with parental consent. 16 and above can contact me directly. It is important to note that in working with young people i am aware of child protection procedures and protocol and the boundaries of confidentiality which is vital to discuss with parents and the young person so we are all clear about what that means for each of us before counselling sessions are undertaken.
I am also a qualified Supervisor and have a Certificate in Clinical Supervision (COSCA). As a supervisor I work with both qualified and trainee counsellors and I can also supervise those working in any of the Helping Professions including Social Care, Nursing, Mental Health
Member organisations
COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.
It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

My fees are£30/ £35 for an hourly session and £40/£45 for 90 minutes. Concessions are available and I take in to account individual circumstances and ability to pay do please dont hesitate to contact me about this.
