About me

Hello, I'm Fiona, an integrative counsellor. My core training modalities are person-centred, psychodynamic and attachment theories. My focus is on you as the client, and I believe you are the expert in your own world. I'm not going to direct or lead you, but I'm going to follow you on your journey, exploring your feelings. Together we're going to make sense of what your issues are, so that you can move forward in your life.

Within the safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment of our counselling session, we will explore the issues which have brought you to therapy. By doing so, we may begin to understand how you can develop your own personal resources and move on and change your patterns of behaviour. Our sessions will focus on your journey, and how you can use our time together in order to move forwards. Using an approach which includes bodily sensations, emotions and the mind, my aim is to support you to improve your self-awareness and enhance your wellbeing.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a BSc  in Therapeutic Counselling. As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP),I adhere to their ethical guidelines.

Alongside my private practice, I  work for a counselling charity organisation, in which I have helped a large range of different people, from diverse backgrounds, ages and socio-economic groups. I work as a family support counsellor at a local children and young people's hospice supporting family members following the loss of their loved one. I have also worked with the Samaritans as a listening volunteer, in which role I helped people in crisis with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety and family-based problems. In addition, I have experience working as a counsellor in a local sixth form college with young people. This built on my years of experience as a teacher in both primary and secondary schools. As a parent myself, I understand the unique challenges which young people face, and which parents and relatives must navigate alongside them.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
