About me

Areas of interest

I specialise in working with the effects of trauma - whether from abuse, lack of attachment or specific events. I work in a person-centred way drawing on a range of creative ways of accessing trauma held at a deeper level in the brain and body.

Person-Centred Brainspotting

Finding the right access can include working with brainspotting (an evolution of EMDR therapy), movement and resources such as sand trays and other creative means. Whilst talking of course forms an integral part of how we work, it is not essential to be verbalising everything, as processing goes on within the mindfulness that is part of working with brainspotting, sand-trays and through movement.

Being person-centred means that I believe that you have the means to heal yourself - my role is to facilitate that in a trauma-informed way, that is full of warmth, compassion, positive regard and empathy.

Resolving trauma is the starting point - from there, it's possible to use the same approach to work on the expansion, realising dreams and living life to the full.

Movement & Resourcing

For some people sitting in a chair for an hour can feel intimidating or restrictive. Working in parallel on mini-trampolines can help breakdown some dissociative barriers. Like wise working with sand, resources and art resources can mean working on trauma and growth at a deeper level.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over seventeen years working in Health & Social Care and education. This included four years working as a key worker in supported housing for people aged 16-25 including young parents.

This experience led me to train as a Person Centred Counsellor with the Metanoia Institute, and in July 2023 -  I graduated from a four year course in Person Centred Counselling with a first class honours degree.

I have also been working with the trauma therapy Brainspotting since 2014, am trained to phase 4 and am part of the BSPUK support team at training events.

I have over four years of counselling experience, working with clients through West Kent Mind, DAVSS (domestic abuse) and Barnados and additionally have a private practice specialising in working with the impact of trauma.

Additionally, I set up and ran a team supporting people with their mental health in partnership between BLG Mind and the NHS.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

If you are choosing to include movement therapy, I have two mini-trampolines to facilitate gentle movement and am trained as a flexi-rebound therapist to ensure that safety is at the heart of the work.
