About me

Hello, thank you for taking a moment to look at my profile.

I have always loved working with people. Because of this, I have spent my career working with people from all walks of life. I am grounded and, because of my experience, well versed in the variety of challenges that life offers to all of us. I am passionate about change and the journey of self awareness. It gives me great joy and a sense of privilege to be part of another persons journey.

If you are here, you might be wishing to change something in your life that is making you feel unhappy, stuck or despairing. You might be wanting to:

  • Work on your relationships – including relationship fractures and endings.
  • Improve your sense of self-esteem and self-worth
  • Move on from shame based feelings and behaviour
  • Work through traumatic life events
  • Seek help for feelings that feel overwhelming - such as anxiety and depression
  • Work with feelings of loss and grief
  • Break patterns of unwanted repeated behaviour
  • Explore alternative ways of coping
  • Move forward from feeling stuck

A key part of counselling success is finding someone you feel comfortable with, feel safe, and with whom you can easily relate and connect.

Together, we will share the hard work of understanding repeated patterns, making conscious what has been unconscious and start to make changes towards living the life you want for yourself. People often look outside of themselves for answers – but by looking within and becoming aware of our processes, needs and patterns we can begin to change our responses that may have become automatic. There is hope for change and healing. I hold that for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship/attachment and family challenges, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD, addictions, self harm, and struggles with emotional management and low self esteem.

I have training and experience of working with personality disorder.

I also manage a counselling project for a local charity and continue to work with clients who struggle with their relationships, their sense of self, and survivors of traumatic and abusive experiences. The work of the charity focuses on women coping with child loss and separation  (including miscarriage and abortion).

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I have worked in the criminal justice sector which gave me a wealth of experience in responding to everyday life challenges, as well as more serious trauma. In this capacity I delivered therapeutic group work to groups of men, and later, as a therapist, to counselling clients in prison.

I have particular specialist  training and experience in working with compulsive sexual behaviour/sex addiction including a depth of experience working with  compulsive pornography use and sexual fetishes.  I offer a gentle but down to earth approach to our work.

If you think that I may be someone you would like to explore working with, please get in touch in total confidentiality.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
