About me

Hello, are you feeling down, depressed or hopeless? Do you feel like you don't know where to turn? There could be many reasons why you are feeling like this just now. By working together with me you will begin to overcome these feelings and start to understand them better. You will become more confident about working through your issues and ultimately you will feel much more positive about the future.

Whatever your issue you can feel assured that by talking things through with me you will gradually begin to feel calmer, less anxious and over time you will feel much more confident. You will begin to develop inner strength and have greater self-esteem which will enable you to meet life head-on.

The techniques I use are Person-Centred Therapy which is a talking therapy that enables you to explore your feelings and emotions. By talking through your issues together we can examine in close detail the various parts of those issues that are troubling you today. Ultimately you will begin to see for yourself the solutions to your problems and have the strength to overcome and resolve them.

Another therapy I use is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is a solution based therapy which teaches you skills to help to change the way you think about your problems. When negative thoughts enter your mind you will be able to look at them and work out a more positive way to view them. Therefore enabling you to keep your issues to a more manageable level.

Clients visit me face to face in my warm, welcoming, and comfortable counselling space. They feel relaxed, safe, and secure which enables them to talk in a free and confidential manner about what is troubling them.

In my private practice I support people from many different walks of life. I have several areas of expertise including anxiety and depression, abusive relationships, bereavement, and chronic illness.  I have also worked in the voluntary sector for a number of years gaining valuable expertise in areas such as abortion, and low self-esteem, family issues, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

As well as running my private practice I have several years experience working within the charity sector as a volunteer counsellor.  Whilst there I have worked with a wide variety of people including business professionals, the self-employed as well as employees of large countrywide organisations.

Increasingly I have counselled people whose mental health has been affected by relationships with a partner or parent.  Although I offer relationship counselling this is for the individual as I do not currently offer couples counselling.
