About me

The decision to come to counselling can be a difficult one for many people.  People choose to have counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, low mood or anger issues.  You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, feeling overwhelmed with grief or loss, or you may have experienced a traumatic event. You could be overwhelmed in your everyday life, making life feel like a real struggle. Through are work together we can get an understanding of what is going on for you and why you feel the way you do.

The aim of counselling is to offer a safe, accepting and confidential space in which you are able to explore your thoughts and feelings. It will give you time to look at any difficulties that you may be experiencing.  The relationship that we develop will enable you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the present situation and empower you to make effective decisions and choices that are right for you.

My counselling approach is based on a humanistic theory. I practice from a person-centred perspective. This mean I believe that you are the expert in your own life and that you have all answers within you. In the work that we undertake together, the aim will be to uncover these answers and enable you to move forward in the direction of your choosing. I do integrate some other approaches if appreciate for that particular client to help support engagement.

Counselling is a process, a journey, that we will embark on together. It may well feel at times that the destination is unclear, but I will be with you every step of the way supporting you throughout the sessions. I will not advise you or direct you to take a particular course of action. The counselling relationship will empower you to take the right path for you, reaching the right outcomes and answers.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) I am bound by its ethical code.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
