About me

Wistman Counselling & Therapy

Hello, my name is David and I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I work in an integrative/pluralistic way, which means I use various therapeutic styles either individually or a combination of styles, with a strong emphasis on Person Centred therapy that puts you at the heart of our work together.

Counselling gives you an opportunity to speak openly in a safe and completely confidential space to someone who really listens, who is trained to do so and who empathises and values you, unconditionally and without judgement.

I am passionate about my work and I will do my utmost to give you the highest level of personal therapy tailored to suit you and your needs. I can offer you a chance to unload from your mind some of the troubles and issues that have been getting you down or holding you back, and help you view them in a new light.

Together we can work through any issues, going at your pace, and I will support you through the whole process with warmth and empathy. I am here for you.

I offer an initial 30-minute assessment in which we can look at your needs and discuss the way I work which will then give you a sense of whether or not you wish to pursue further sessions. I work with adults either face-to-face, online (Zoom/Skype), telephone, outdoors walk and talk, or if your home has a confidential space I am happy to do home visits.

Everything we talk about is confidential and always non-judgemental.

I know that life is no fairytale, and it doesn't always work out how we expect, and sometimes it's hard to come to terms with this.

My aim is to help you find acceptance of yourself and your circumstances and enable you to gain a greater understanding of yourself.

What I can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Loss
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Family problems
  • Work or employment struggles
  • Self-esteem
  • Past event/Childhood trauma

If you feel I may be the right counsellor for you, please do get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
