About me

I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, which means I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including  humanistic, existential, psychodynamic and body/breathwork to discover the approach that works best for you as an individual.

People come to Counselling and Therapy for many different reasons - persistent negative moods and behaviours, doubts and uncertainties about where one is going in life, traumatic or  upsetting events that stay with us. My focus is on really listening to clients, hearing them, and helping them recognise heir conflicts and difficulties.  Really being heard is the first step up space for something new to emerge, which can lead to a renewed sense of purpose, the integration of difficult experiences and renewed happiness in life.

Your first session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet each other and start to explore why you have sought therapy well as any questions you might have about the process. I begin with really trying to hear the client and clarify what's going on for you emotionally while maintaining curiosity and encouraging you to explore your experience, I will also discuss any broad, longer term goals as to where you want to the work to go, I will be alert to the quality of emotional contact between us and will draw attention to that as appropriate.

I will also try and hold in mind or discuss any  longer term goals as to where you want to the work to go, what outcomes you might want. I will be alert to the quality of emotional contact between us and will draw attention to that as appropriate.

Why therapy helps

We often avoid more difficult feelings and emotions, such as shame, fear and distress . Being able to explore them in a safe, supportive environment can lead to us accepting them,  seeing that which has gone unseen and accepting that which we’ve been rejecting. This can lead to us  learning from and integrating the experiences that caused them.   We can then have more energy available for living and often a deeper capacity for feeling and more emotional range.

Building a relationship with a therapist is one way of exploring these emotions and developing  range and depth.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the University of Roehampton in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, graduating in 2021.

I have several years of experience working as a counsellor for The Centre for Better Health in Hackney since 2018, seeing a wide range of clients from the area. I have worked with clients with issues such as depression, anxiety, BPD, alongside many others.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

What to expect from counselling and therapy

All of us experience life as difficult and painful. A counsellor can lend a ear to your problems, deepen your experience of what you are feeling and hep you negotiate how to face you future. Having someone to see, to talk to, and over time to trust, can in itself be very helpful.

Bodywork

Working directly with the body, via work with the breath and directed attention, can be very powerful, and access emotions and feelings that have perhaps long been hidden. I aim to provide a space where you can begin to explore your  relationship with your body gently and safely.
