About me

My Training Skills

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and use a variety of highly effective techniques and methods from various well-known approaches such as Person Centred, Gestalt, TA and Psychodynamic.  I am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).

Most importantly, I believe that the client/counsellor relationship is integral to a positive, pro-active successful resolution of issues.

Location

My counselling private practice is based in Totterdown Bristol, a short walk from Temple Meads Station.

What To Expect In Counselling Sessions

Whatever your issue, you can be sure that you will be in a safe, empathetic and supportive environment where you are central to the therapeutic journey. With a fully qualified counsellor whose experience and knowledge will work with you to investigate and help resolve your issues.

In these times of stress and anxiety, one needs to find one’s inner core strength to be able to be fully grounded and able to fully move into life with clarity and focus.

How Counselling Can Help You

I work with helping clients with a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and panic attacks.

I specialize in areas of trauma, dissociation, abandonment and attachment issues.

Issues You May Be Dealing With

Perhaps you feel lost, ungrounded, unable to understand your emotional way of being and always seem to be at conflict with yourself and others in your life. You may be unable to get on with family members, work colleagues and friends. Perhaps you suffer from anxiety, stress, OCD, addictions, lack of self-worth. Perhaps you are grieving a loss of a loved one, relationship break-up or a job.

Many of these issues could be due to unprocessed past events that are holding you back in life and causing you emotional pain and confusion. That’s where I can help you to examine these feelings in a safe secure environment free from judgement.  Where you can lead your own healing journey at your own specific pace with me by your side, who has the knowledge, experience and skills to work with you to a positive healthy resolution of your issues.

You may also have a current issue that needs addressing, where you can find the strength to work through it and successfully overcome any barriers that are holding you back in life.

Positive and Effective Methods

Along with the wide variety of well-known counselling techniques and concepts that I use, many of my clients have benefited from an understanding of healthy breathing techniques and simple but highly effective visualisation exercises. These have proven to be catalysts for a positive resolution of many deep-rooted issues, that my clients had been suffering from for many years. These methods also help to facilitate a more grounded, stronger and healthier way of being in my clients.

Creative Integrative Methods To Suite Your Specific Needs

I believe that humans contain aspects of mind, body and spirit, where I work with the whole (Gestalt) of the human condition, recognising and understanding the interconnection of all life. I understand that by working in a creative spontaneous manner in the here and now with techniques such as Gestalt’s role-play and the Chair exercise, issues can be resolved in a pro-active, safe and engaging manner.

I also work with dreams which can be a fun and engaging window into the unconscious presenting material of the client, within the psychodynamic perspective.

Experience, Understanding and Teamwork

I also work in the NHS mental health services with inpatients and outpatients dealing with a wide variety of mental health conditions, that were often caused by past traumatic events. I know that the mind can be overwhelmed by trauma and by the lack of a caring support system in early life, that can cause a crisis in adulthood.

Together we can work as a strong team to help you find healthy solutions to enable you to find out who you truly are and to enable you to fully move into life with strength and focus.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have qualified with a Counselling Foundation Degree.

I am a registered member of the British Association For Counselling And Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have a BA Hons Degree in Humanities.

I have worked as a student counsellor with face to face and online counselling at the Knowle West Health Association in South Bristol (KWHA) for two years working with clients with a wide range of issues.

I have worked in the NHS mental health services for over three and a half years with people of all ages with many diverse forms of mental health issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
