About me

You can talk to me about thoughts and feelings that might be hard to bring to other people in your life and together we can try to understand what’s going on and why. We might make links to the past as we cast forward to what may be hoped for in the future. I can support you now, and as we move toward changes that will make a difference to you, your relationships, or your workplace.

I welcome clients or supervisees online (Zoom) or in person in my home office in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire.

Training, qualifications & experience

Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (University of Abertay, Dundee)

Certificate in Counselling Supervision (COSCA)

Certificate in Cyber Therapy (Online Therapy Institute)

As practice manager of a counselling charity from 2015 to 2022 I gained experience in working with a diverse range of issues. My counselling supervision practice has also been shaped by supporting a team of counsellors through a wide range of challenges and dilemmas. As a mentor to trainees on placement I have experience in writing reports for counselling courses (CBT, Person centred, Psychodynamic, Pluralistic, TA)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Fees

£50.00 per session

Additional information

The first counselling session is charged at half the standard hourly fee and does not oblige either of us to continue.

Supervisees should feel free to get in touch to arrange an appointment for a one-off consultation to talk about how we might work together to support your counselling practice. Initial sessions are charged at half the standard hourly fee and do not oblige either of us to continue. We will generally meet for a one and a half hour appointment per calendar month for qualified counsellors, or two one hour appointments for trainees, depending on your caseload.

Further information

Based in the UK, I work with adults over the age of 16 years. During our introductory counselling appointment we can discuss a pattern that suits you and whether you would like to talk online via Zoom, by phone or face to face in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire. Generally counselling works best when the sessions are consistent- either weekly or fortnightly and will last an hour. We will regularly review how things are going and will work towards an ending that feels right for both of us.

If you are interested in going forward, it is a good idea to book an initial one-hour session so that you have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about what is involved in therapy. It is also a time for me to hear about what thoughts, feelings or experiences bring you to counselling and  "why now"? I will want to gather a brief history and find out what supports your mental health. From your story I can begin to get a sense of what's troubling you and we can discuss where I fit and how I can help.

I will do what I can to make sure that you get the most from your counselling experience. My aim is to provide a high quality, professional, flexible service that takes account of what you need; what concerns or troubles you as well as what is helping.

Feel free to get in touch to arrange an appointment for a one-off consultation to talk through your concerns and find out whether talking to a counsellor who is independent, not emotionally involved, and focused on your needs is an option you might consider.

For counsellors, our supervisory arrangements (timing and method of delivery) will meet the criteria set by your accrediting body or training provider and will be frequent enough to support the co-creation of a genuine relationship.
