About me

I offer counselling ONLINE via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp and FaceTime or by phone.

I believe that warmth, kindness, acceptance and respect are important qualities that enable us to thrive at the core of our beings and live meaningful, purposeful lives, whilst psychological and emotional connection to another enable us to know ourselves; we can only know our self in relation to another, and I endeavour to provide that in our work together.

I will work with you to create the life you wish to lead.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming and you can feel anxious and depressed or suffer from generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) or panic disorder. This can affect your relationships with others and make it difficult to lead a rich and full life, leading to isolation and loneliness and lack of opportunities. I work with a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches including CBT and Compassion-based Therapeutic Mindfulness which are very helpful in restoring a sense of calm and confidence in being able to cope.

Relationships can be difficult and hard to navigate your way through. It may be your relationship to yourself and wanting to find out more about how you tick, what presses your buttons and why you keep coming up against the same problems in your relationships with others. You may be feeling sad or have depression.

You may be pregnant and experiencing a range of emotions and life choices that you could benefit from having the space to work through, or have given birth and now be struggling with post-natal depression. I am experienced in supporting woman with pre- and post-natal difficulties and am registered with the Foundation for Infant Loss.

It may be that you are coping with a bereavement and the ensuing grief and sadness, and often confusing and conflicting feelings especially if it was a difficult relationship. Therapy can help.

It may be that you are coping with an affair or betrayal, separation or divorce and would like to have individual or couple's counselling to help work through the issues involved.

You may have experienced abuse or sexual abuse and have overwhelming or confusing and difficult thoughts and feelings about your experience, you may suffer from PTSD. I can help you to work through this and heal from your experience safely and at your pace.

You may have a problem with online pornography or are at risk of committing a sexual offence. I am a registered therapist with StopSO and can work with you to help you lead a pro-social life.

  • I work with individuals and couples.
  • I work with young people from the age of 16.

I am an experienced integrative, humanistic psychotherapist and counsellor. I offer you a safe, confidential space where you can explore your issues and concerns at your own pace. You may have a pressing concern that you would like to resolve quickly so we could work from a solution-focused approach, or it may be that you have deeper issues that you wish to explore and work with in longer term psychotherapy gaining more self-awareness and insight. Both psychotherapy and counselling can be profoundly healing spiritually, psychologically and emotionally.

I will work with you to create the life you wish to live.

My specialist areas of interest are:

  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Relationships
  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Sexual abuse
  • Self-harm
  • Life stages, both beginnings and endings; e.g. college, work, marriage/living together, divorce/parting, fertility, infertility, parenthood, moving home, health and wellness, ageing.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework of good practice for counselling and psychotherapy. I am also an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society.

Registered Trainer: Cruse Bereavement Care

I have 40 years experience in healthcare. Starting with my nurse training in 1976, I worked in both the NHS and private sector before setting up in private practice as a integrative health practitioner in 1984. Since 2005 I have volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Care, supporting bereaved adults, children and young people with their grief, whether the deaths were from illness, suicide or homicide. Gradually my private practice has become focused on my work as a psychotherapist and counsellor, with awareness of the physical impact our emotions and psyche have on our physical health.

SUPERVISION
I offer supervision to both experienced and student counsellors and psychotherapists, and complementary healthcare practitioners. I have 11 years experience supervising bereavement support volunteers and counsellors for Cruse Bereavement Care, as well as working as a Supervisor in my private practice.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
