About me

Sometimes strong emotions such as anger, sadness and anxiety can leave children feeling overwhelmed. This can lead them to become withdrawn, struggle at school and in friendships, or show their feelings in behaviours which are unhelpful.

Psychotherapy can help your child to put their feelings into words and help them to express themselves in a different way. They will have access to a confidential space in which they can explore what is causing their distress and, by understanding themselves better, they can have better relationships with their family and friends and begin to build their confidence.

My practice is conducted within a multidisciplinary clinic, and I work closely with other professionals to make sure each child is accessing the best possible support. Each session lasts 50 minutes and are adapted to be age appropriate. For example, adolescents and young adults often prefer to engage in conversation and younger children tend to prefer to work through playing. No matter what your concerns are for your child, we can find the right path towards help, and I look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a first class degree in Child Psychology and a Masters in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents from Birkbeck University. I have extensive experience of working with children and young people who have ASD and/or ADHD and other diagnosis.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

After a free introductory phone call, you will be invited to an initial consultation. This is a 90-minute meeting alone with the therapist to discuss your child’s developmental history and to think together about your current concerns for your child. Following this, your child may be offered 3 exploratory sessions which is a chance for the therapist to start to get to know your child and get a sense of how they respond to psychotherapy. After this, another parent meeting is offered to discuss the best way forwards for your child, which may be regular weekly therapy sessions.

The structure of the therapy programme is usually based on 1:1 counselling sessions once a week. Each session lasts 50 minutes and are adapted to be age appropriate, for example, adolescents and young adults often prefer to engage in conversation and younger children tend to prefer to work through playing. They are welcome to explore a range of creative resources on offer including, drawing, animal toys, building blocks, doll house play or to simply talk with their therapist.
