About me

Hello, I’m Caitriona and I work with people experiencing many different issues and problems including anxiety, overthinking, and low self-esteem.

Maybe you’re looking for help because you find yourself lying awake at night feeling worried and anxious. Perhaps you would like to make changes in your life, but you don’t know where to begin, or you’re afraid to get started because you don’t want to get it wrong. Or maybe it feels as if everything is just too much and your worries and concerns are affecting the way you live your life and your relationships.

I understand how isolating and exhausting it can be to deal with the constant feeling of anxiety and relentless chatter of your thoughts.

As someone who has experienced anxiety, I understand how it can impact every aspect of your life. It can affect your relationships, your work, your self-care, and your overall sense of well-being.

Talking can help. Having your feelings truly heard, understood, and acknowledged by another person enables change to happen. I will listen to you and help you explore your thoughts and feelings so that you can begin to find your own sense of empowerment and agency to live your life in the way that you want to live it.

You will not be judged or criticised and we will gently meet your struggles together - with compassion and kindness. I can help you to explore your feelings, past experiences, and relationships to gain a sense of what truly makes you you, so that you feel empowered to make your own choices and inhabit your space in the world more freely.

I work in a comfortable room in Downpatrick and can see you either in person or online. I also offer walk and talk therapy outdoors in the Downpatrick area.

What happens next?

I offer a free 15-20 minute call for us to have an informal chat to discuss what's going on for you and establish if working together feels like a good fit.

If you get in touch via email, I will give you a call within 24 hours of receipt.

Training, qualifications & experience

Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling from the University of Ulster

I regularly develop my expertise through professional development in many areas including shadow work and inner child healing.

In addition to my private practice, I provide counselling via a community mental health charity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
