About me

Hello and welcome

Finding a counsellor can be a daunting prospect, especially if you have not had therapy before. There are any number of reasons why you may be seeking counselling, and no reason is too small. If something is affecting you, then it is worth our time and we will work together to make sense of what you are going through. Counselling offers an opportunity for reflection, self-discovery and personal growth.

How I work

I offer a non-judgmental, collaborative space where you are safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. I am here to listen and support you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation. I believe that the more we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to find the freedom to change our lives for the better. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and can trust in me, so I aim to create an environment in which you feel respected, supported and heard. A trusting relationship encourages you to be your true, authentic self and this forms a strong foundation for the counselling work.

As a psychodynamic counsellor, I would like to explore your past experiences and consider how these experiences have shaped the person you are today. We can start to recognise patterns that you have adopted along the way and I aim to help you let go of patterns that you feel are getting in the way of you enjoying life fully. My psychodynamic approach also means that I seek to understand you as a whole person, rather than simply focus on the issue that brought you to the counselling room. This helps us get a sense of why the issue arose in the first place and I believe this is the best route to long-term positive change.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

It is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable working with. If you would like to find out more about me and the way I work or if you have any questions about the process, I offer an initial discussion via phone call. This call is free and there is no obligation to continue.

If you would like to progress with counselling, subsequent sessions will take place on a weekly basis at a 50 minute duration. I can accommodate both long term and short term work.

I work in two different premises throughout the week. On Mondays I am in YCS Counselling Wales (near the city centre, on-street parking available which is charged before 6pm) and on Tuesdays I am in AtOne Cardiff (a health and wellbeing centre in Rhiwbina, free parking available).
