About me

My name is Ben Bamber and I am qualified person-centred counsellor, based in south Manchester. I specialise in person-centred counselling and psychotherapy, and offer both in person (walk and talk therapy and online sessions). I believe everyone should have the opportunity to feel listened too, accepted without fear of judgement and feel welcomed in a safe space. I have six years of experience working in mental clinical settings supporting individuals through addiction, eating disorders, psychosis, bipolar, PTSD and depression. My other passion is voluntary work supporting individuals with HIV/AIDS l, fighting stigma and allowing everyone to have the opportunity to flourish. For the last three years I have worked as a person centred counsellor specialising in person-centred therapy for a leading LGBTQ+ organisation and also providing counselling through a service commissioned by the NHS for clients referred by their GP.

The mode of counselling I specialise in is Person-Centred psychotherapy, uniquely humanistic, as the approach affirms that each person has the resources within them to grow and develop, providing they have the right support.

I am currently training in Cognitive behaviour therapy and can offer a more directive, goal orientated approach, identifying patterns in your behaviour. We can explore your negative automatic thoughts, moods, physical sensations, environment and help come up with a collaborative treatment plan to help you with new ways of coping.

How I Practice?

Person-centred psychotherapy profound characteristic is that it is non-directive in the respect, whereby you decide what to explore in the sessions. It is not my role to advise or to try to fix your presenting issue, I am here to help you understand your emotions and behaviours, so that you can learn to manage and gain a better perspective into yourself. It is expected of me to demonstrate empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard so that you feel safe to share those difficult thoughts, feelings and actions you are experiencing. I am currently only delivering sessions online via video or telephone, however I am happy to do walk and talk therapeutic sessions, outdoors in the South Manchester Area.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
