About me

Hello. Would you like to talk? I'm glad you found your way here.

Are you struggling with anxieties or depression, feeling stuck, has life become confusing or difficult, are you having relationship or family issues? Did you have difficult moments or experiences in the past? Or maybe things aren’t working out the way you want or the way you hoped?

Life can throw up many problems, and we all sometimes need someone to hear us.

Counselling & Therapy

Every therapy is unique, as each person is unique. But these are some elements in counselling and therapy that help to understand how the process can work.

Each week we'll spend time together in a safe and non-judgemental space. Together, and at your pace, we will unfold and untangle the problems and difficulties in your life. In this process alone there is often a great sense of relief, unburdening and release.

It will never be about what’s wrong with you. It will be about what happened to you, or how you developed ways of living that made it possible for you to cope with the relationships and circumstances in your life — and how those patterns may have become stuck in you unconsciously and are now getting in the way of letting you be who you are or who you want to be.

We explore the relationships you have with others and with yourself, both from the past and in the present.

All your feelings, thoughts, ideas and stories will be welcome.

Often the work we do is so that emotions and feelings experienced in the present or from your past don’t block, disrupt or rule you, or cause damage to you.

Sometimes people can begin without an ability to express and access many of the variety of feelings a person can have. But I've seen with time a person can go from that state to developing a much more fulfilling and healthy emotional life. And wherever you start from, or whatever reason you start for, a change is possible for you, too.

And there is no obstacle in how young or old you are, what your background or your past is, or what has brought you here in this moment

Issues I Work With

I work with people with many issues, including but not limited to, unhappiness; anxiety; depression; relationships with partners and family; relationships with food; relationships with body image; low self-worth; loss; procrastination; stress; panic attacks; addiction; OCD; early attachment issues; grief and bereavement; self-harm; abuse; loneliness; separation; and insecurity. And I  work with, and enjoy working with, clients who have an ADHD diagnosis.

It may also be though that you are generally dissatisfied and unhappy with your life and want to work out how to free yourself up and live a happier and better life, or find a way to live a completely different life that is more in line with your wishes and hopes.

How I Work

I work with a psychodynamic approach, understanding how the unconscious, the past and our early relationships affect how we live in the present in ways we are not fully aware of.

I will help you recognise and feel the role of the unconscious and the past in your life as you live it now, but it is also very much about my being there with you in a safe relationship as you come into and explore your present, and feel what it is to be in the present with more freedom — as you move towards becoming free and clear of what has held you down and held you back.

My work is guided by humanistic principles, where the core values are to meet you where you are, being genuine and non-judgemental.

As they may be needed, I may call on aspects of other modalities such as here-and-now approaches and trauma-informed work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
