About me

I identify as a counsellor with Afro-Caribbean ancestry. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and integrative, drawing inspiration from various theoretical frameworks, including psychodynamic, Gestalt, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). Bereavement, grief, and loss in diverse spheres of life, including identity, loved ones, health, and relationships, are my areas of expertise.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP Advanced Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor.

Prior to this, I got level 2 and level 3 counselling certificates and founded a therapy group for women of Afro-Caribbean heritage while studying for an advanced diploma and a diploma in humanistic integrative counselling. I have two years of private practise experience in addition to the therapy hours I have accumulated while pursuing my certification.

My registration currently includes both adult and youth work.

My working methods are mostly psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Gestalt. In theory, I believe that a person's past has a significant impact on their present. However, there are situations and things in the present that are at the forefront of the individual's awareness and may impede them from resolving underlying worries. It is essential to work with the individual from a person-centred theoretical perspective while applying Gestalt therapy skills and learning to support the individual to move at a reasonable pace that is sufficiently comfortable to support gentle challenges that will enable the client to move their process forward from a place where they may be emotionally stuck.

When a client is challenged and responds favourably to their difficulties, I believe that CBT can be used to treat cognitive dissonance and discover the client's fundamental belief system, which is the underlying assertion on which their conscious existence is founded. I believe that this will then allow the individual to feel confident enough to begin addressing the issues from their upbringings or from the moment where trauma occurred.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I am not restricted to any one field of psychological therapy and will be driven by the needs of each client. Depending on the needs of the client, I may also use imagery and transpersonal counselling in this area.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
