About me
Hello, I'm Annette, an experienced counsellor here to help with life’s difficulties. I enjoy working with people and have a wide range of experience. If you are looking for some where to process some of the events in your life then please feel free to contact me. I appreciate that talking can be difficult for some people and they may find creative outlets eg drawing, poetry etc helpful to process their feelings/emotions and so I am happy to facilitate that way of working.
Working with me.
My core training is in the Person Centred approach and understanding your experiences from your viewpoint and validating your lived experience is an important part of my way of working. I am also trained to work with trauma and also attachment issues. I have access to use a range of ideas to help put you in the drivers seat to achieve your goals.
I offer a free 15 - 30 minute telephone or online meeting so we can meet each other and assess whether we could work together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been in private practice for the past 9 years. I became interested in counselling after I attended counselling myself. I found the process rewarding but it also kickstarted my interest in working with other people who were experiencing distress or a lack of satisfaction in their lives. I also work with folk who are questioning if they are neuro divergent but just to be clear I cannot diagnose neurodivergence. I am particularly interested in working with people who may late diagnosed or self diagnosed. If you have aphantasia or hyperphantasia does this impact your life and in what way?.
I have worked as a counsellor in an Employment Assistance Programme and worked with people experiencing issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, intrusive thoughts, childhood sexual abuse, emotional overwhelm and low self esteem..
During my training I was as a volunteer with Cancer Support Scotland. I worked with people and their families living with a cancer diagnosis and the fear, isolation and uncertainty that people experienced.
I work in a non pathologizing way with Gender, Sexual and Relationship diversity.
As a member of BACP I am bound by their Code of Ethics and Practice and subject to its complaints procedure. I am also trained in critical incident stress debriefing and can attend incidents which have occurred in the workplace.
Currently I am learning more about Diversity, Cultural competence, Race and Anti- Discrimination Practice and how this plays out in the counselling room and society at large.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
