About me

Hello, I'm Annette, an experienced counsellor here to help with life’s difficulties. I am based in Paisley and am easily accessible from Glasgow, Renfrew, Johnstone,  Elderslie, Houston, Bridge of Weir, Bishopton,  Langbank, Inverclyde and Beith .

I can support you to get back on track, find a new direction or lead a more connected and fulfilling live. I work with you to help you to realise your goals and move towards living a more meaningful life.

Working with me.

My core training is in the Person Centred approach and understanding your experiences from your viewpoint  and validating that is  fundamental to my work.

I  have  experience in working with clients presenting with issues or challenges such as depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, bereavement and childhood issues such as abuse.

I am also happy to work with neurodivergent clients and those who have been diagnosed late in life. Perhaps you are wondering if you are neurodivergent. Whilst it is not within my remit to diagnose this I can certainly hold the space for you to explore this further.

I  offer a 15 minute telephone or online consultation to discuss how we might work together. I am happy to answer questions about my suitabilty to work with you. If I do not have the necessary skills then I will do my best to offer you the name of other colleagues who may be more suitable for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have had my own private practice for the past 8 years. Prior to working in private practice I worked as a counsellor for a few years in an Employment Assistance Programme. I am familiar with work related issues and the  role of Occupational Health and have worked with  many people suffering from anxiety, stress, depression, bullying, relationship issues, bereavement, self harm, generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks, low self esteem and social anxiety.

I have also worked in an organization and worked with clients who had experienced sexual abuse in childhood.

During my training I worked as a volunteer in a number of counselling organisations gaining experience in working with distress clients with many different issues.  Post qualifying  I volunteered with Cancer Support Scotland for about 1 year working with people and their families living with a cancer diagnosis. Prior to retraining as a counsellor I had extensive experience working in the NHS in a number of different roles. Towards the end of my career in the NHS I worked as an advanced nurse practitioner and dealt with many patient and family issues.

As a Neurodivergent person myself I welcome other ND clients and work in a Neuro-diversity Affirming way.  I work in a non pathologising way with Gender, Sexual and Relationship diversity.

As a member of  BACP  I am bound by their Code of Ethics and Practice and subject to its complaints procedure.  I am also trained in critical incident stress debriefing and can attend incidents which have occurred in the workplace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
