About me

Hi there, I'm Angela McDonnell. Welcome to my profile.

By taking that first step to reach out things can start to improve for you.
Most of us have times in our lives when we feel low or struggle to cope. This may be due to a crisis, a particular life event, an accumulation of stress, or difficult past experiences which are still affecting you now.

However, you don’t have to be in crisis to seek counselling, it can also be useful if you’re feeling stuck, confused, or unfulfilled in your life, or if you would simply like to work on your personal development, or reconnect with your strengths and resources.

Making the decision to come for counselling is not a sign of failure, but a positive step toward creating a happier life for yourself.

A little bit about me - Angela McDonnell

With over 15 years of training and experience and a proven track record of offering a supportive and transformative therapeutic relationship working with adults in face-to-face and online spaces, if you choose to work with me you can rest assured that you are in safe hands ...

I am also a reassuringly relaxed and down-to-earth professional counsellor. You'll often find me in my therapy space wearing jeans, trainers or doc martens, and sipping on herbal tea...

So what is it like to work with me?

Believe it or not, many people enjoy coming to counselling. As well as using the counselling space to look at what is difficult and troubling, it is also a space to celebrate your wins, recognise your strengths, and nurture your talents.  As well as the possibility of releasing tears, there is also the possibility of laughter, and uplifting connection...

You will have the space to talk, explore, and gain new insights about your life and yourself.  You will be supported to drop into the deeper layers of it all...

There are many creative and dynamic processes that I may introduce you to. Where you are willing, you may find yourself creating life maps, journaling, doodling your feelings, creating lists, body sensing, practicing what you want to say to someone...and so much more! Of course, we can just sit and talk too...

I will not offer you solutions, answers, or tell you what to do... but I will support you to gain new perspectives, insights, and self-awareness so that you find the answers, solutions, and next steps for yourself...

Am I the right person to help you ...

I think the only way to find out is to meet me and decide for yourself.

l understand that reaching out and asking for support often isn't easy and you may have doubts and fears, and so I've made the process as easy as possible for you...

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
