About me

*I currently have some availability Tuesday daytime. Please enquire by email only. I reply to all enquiries so if you haven’t received a response from me check your junk email.

Hi. I’m Angela (she/her). I am a qualified, accredited and trauma informed counsellor based in Carlisle, Cumbria. I have 11 years of counselling experience and an additional 20 years of experience supporting people of all ages in a variety of settings. This has included working in schools, nurseries, residential units and for Cumbria County Council. I am gender, sexuality and relationship diversity affirmative and kink knowledgeable.

I have completed training to Intermediate Level 1 in Somatic Experiencing,  I am Internal Family Systems Informed and I am a certified cyber therapist.

I provide long and short term therapy for adults and young people aged 13 and over.  Sessions usually last 50 minutes, are one to one and can be arranged at a frequency that works for you.

The session content will be tailored around your specific requirements and we will work at your pace. I offer online sessions via email, instant messenger, voice and video calls in addition to face to face sessions.

My approach to therapy is integrative. This means that I draw from a variety of different therapy approaches but all of my work is underpinned by my somatic training and understanding of how the nervous system affects how we think, feel and behave.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a catalyst for great change and that people can start to feel better when they feel seen and heard and have their feelings validated.

I will not judge, advise or tell you what to do and I respect that you are the expert in your life. It is not a necessary requirement that you revisit traumatic and distressing events as part of your therapy and I can equip you with tools, techniques and coping strategies to use outside of the session when things are difficult.

Further information

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing differs from some other more traditional therapies as it offers a ‘body first’ approach to the difficult and sometimes physical effects of trauma.

It is not about reclaiming memories or changing thoughts and beliefs about how you feel. It works with the ‘felt sense’ accessing physical sensations, imagery and motor patterns to help re-regulate the nervous system.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems is an approach to therapy that believes that we all have different parts or aspects to our personality. Some of these parts are wounded and protective but there are no ‘bad parts’ and all have the best of intentions for our system.

The goal of Internal Family Systems Therapy is not to get rid of parts but is instead to understand and heal the wounded parts allowing protectors to step out of their extreme roles.
