About me

Hi, my name is Aneta. I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means that I draw from various approaches, including Gestalt, Person Centred and Psychodynamic. I have experience working therapeutically with people from all walks of life, but my two main areas of expertise are supporting people to process their trauma (both recent and historic) and working with clients from ethnically diverse communities.

* How psychotherapy can help

We all need a safe space to talk, especially in difficult times. We need our pain to be witnessed by someone who can be truly present and hold space. My aim is to provide you with reparative experiences, care and compassion. I would like to help you to understand what might be holding you back, connect with your inner self and find peace regardless of your life circumstances. I believe that psychological well-being does not mean perfection and getting rid of problems but is rooted in awareness and developing tools to cope with life’s challenges.

I work from a trauma informed, integrative perspective and have substantial experience in supporting people who have experienced trauma, particularly sexual, emotional and physical abuse. Together we can explore what coping strategies you have developed to manage your trauma. I will be at your side as you are processing your pain and tell your story. We will also work on developing trust (towards self and others), safety and a healthy sense of control over your life.

Therapy can also be a part of your emotional self-care and a great opportunity to take care of your mental health, similarly to how you would look after your physical health by exercising or healthy eating. You don’t always need to wait until things become overwhelming; you can invest in yourself now and explore your thoughts, feelings and needs in a safe, impartial, non-judgemental space.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the University of the West of England, Bristol, and hold a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical framework and professional standards.

In addition to my counselling degree, I hold a Level 4 counselling certificate in Person Centred and Psychodynamic Skills (University of the West of England).

I have completed various training courses such as: working with mental health in primary and secondary care, safeguarding clients, EFT, Focusing, Polyvagal theory, compassionate approach to anxiety, introduction to Internal Family Systems (IFS), existential therapy, trauma informed work, working with substance misuse, working with sexual and domestic abuse.

I volunteered at Cotswold Counselling charity in Cirencester for three years and have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life.

My background is in education and social care, including working with children who have special needs and parents who care for a child with disability. In addition to my therapeutic work, my job in social services provided me with some valuable experiences of engaging people from black, minority, and global majority communities. Working with people from various ethnic backgrounds regularly, has enhanced my multicultural competencies. I facilitate culturally sensitive therapy with an understanding of issues related to diversity and identity. I offer therapy sessions in Polish as well as English.

* My approach

I am aware of the impact of trauma on client’s nervous system and consequently on their everyday life. I keep up to date with recent literature and findings on trauma, including developments of new theories. Working with complex, developmental trauma and PTSD, I am always mindful of client’s safety and the fact that this type of work should be approached gently and at client’s own pace. I believe in the wholeness of each person, in the unity of mind, body and spirit. I therefore incorporate some body work, alongside a cognitive exploration. In my work with survivors of abuse, I use some grounding techniques (such as breathing, mindfulness, finding a safe space, body scans), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Focusing and Polyvagal theory to facilitate client’s ‘new vagus states’, safety in their bodies and re-connecting with the self and others. I pay close attention to how I am being with clients, as opposed to just focusing on what I am doing. One of the modalities I trained in is Gestalt, which I frequently use in form of experiments. At the heart of what I do is investing in the quality of my relationship with clients. As each client is unique, so is the relationship we co-create. I embody person-centred core conditions in every session, staying empathic, affirming of client’s experiences and congruent in what I do and who I am.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
