About me

Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. If you are suffering with anxiety, depression or low mood, feeling fearful or down, or struggling with motivation and feeling unable to move forward then I may be the right counsellor for you. Perhaps you have a sense of overwhelm or stress, or you’re feeling like you may be approaching burnout.

Are you struggling with a difficult relationship, may be a break-up, or you’re feeling betrayed or let down? Perhaps you want professional support to help you heal and move forward with you life? Is there a major transition or life changing event that you’re struggling to come to terms with. One that’s throwing up distressing feelings as you try to adjust and cope.

I work with most presenting issues and have a particular interest in:

  • Anxiety.
  • Low mood/depression.
  • Relationship issues (both romantic relationships and family dynamics, eg parent/child issues).
  • Bereavement, grief and all forms of loss: I am hospice trained to work with grief.
  • ADHD: I am aware and informed with experience of supporting adults.

I offer a caring, confidential, non-judgemental space to work on whatever is causing you distress. I will work alongside you with kindness and compassion in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where I will try to help you feel safe, enable you to speak your mind and explore whatever is troubling you.  My aim is to help you gain in self awareness, to process the unprocessed, and  to help you identify solutions to support you in implementing positive change.

I am a fully registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am fully indemnity insured, have an enhanced DBS and have a strict code of ethics to which I adhere. I am anti-racist, and LGBTQIA+ affirmative and I actively take part in regular Continued Professional Development (CPD) to enhance my skills and keep me up to date.

We can work together to help you process what’s happened and to explore what you want to happen next. Perhaps you’re struggling with a lack of self belief; feeling alone or lacking in confidence or self esteem? My aim is to help you discover or rediscover who you really are, to find your inner strengths, know your positive qualities and acknowledge unique attributes that make you, you. I’m here to support you on your journey back to an emotionally healthier, happier more confident you.

As a person-centred therapist I will respect that you are the expert on your feelings. I won’t analyse you or tell you that you’re “wrong”. But I will encourage you to look at yourself with self compassion and we may address issues like your self-care, especially if you are pouring from an empty cup or carrying around emotional burdens that are no longer serving you.

Please get in touch if you have any questions: contact me.  I am more than happy to answer all questions and if you’d like to, we can book a free introductory call to see if I am able to help you: hello@amandagemmelcounselling.co.uk.  Please feel free to send me a message via sms or WhatsApp to 07473 040596 or send me a message via my Instagram page: amanda.gemmel.counselling

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
