About me

Bereavement, cancer and illness support, mental health concerns:

Neurodivergent Aware/Neurodivergent Clients Welcome.

There is no protection from being human and from living and all the experiences that are beyond our control.  The only thing that is important is being human.  Status, money and other material things aren't relevant when you're in the midst of loss, terminal illness or vulnerable.  If you are bereaved, people don't talk about these aspects of the person you've lost, they talk about their values and who they were, they remember the person.  When you are about to go through or are facing bereavement and loss, this is when you start to ask different questions.  You're not crazy for feeling disorientated and definitely not going mad for the thoughts that run through your mind.  Because everything looks different when you've had the floor pulled away from under you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Before qualifying as a counsellor, I was volunteering for Cruse Bereavement.  This is where I really learned how to keep any interactions to a human level when speaking to people about bereavement.  Having gone through bereavement without any support myself, I wanted to help make sure this didn't happen for others.

I worked for the NHS in a cancer department.  Speaking to each cancer patient, they each had their own version of the impact it had on them - the shock, the grief and how it affects their loved ones.  I've learned not to make any assumptions about people in light of their diagnosis.  The safest and most respectable thing I could do for them is tend to them as a fellow human.

Losing parents and a baby (as I have) is something that informs my work and just as I have done, there is a way to recover your well-being.

My qualifications were complete in 2022, with a BA (Hons) in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

How I can help you - this is my formula for our therapeutic relationship and successful counselling work:

  • I'm not a higher authority on who you are just because I have done the training.
  • I just listen to what you bring forward.
  • This also creates greater empathy, when I'm only a human, as are you.
  • I use my personal experience of life, not just my qualifications.
  • I understand that finding meaning is often an existential thing.

Just a reminder, bereavement and loss doesn't only extend to losing loved ones. Relationships and different phases of life involve these too, or anxiety and depression can be a sign that you're going through something.

THERAPY ROOM - A private, confidential room in a large garden.

OUTDOOR AND NATURE THERAPY - If you wish to work outdoors in nature, I have beautiful venues from my therapy room or mutual venues in Peterborough or Huntingdon.
