About me

I am a qualified clinical psychologist drawing on a range of psychological models to help individuals live more fully and I hope suffer less. My main focus is one-to-one, couple and family work, with the aim of working together to make life more positive and bearable.

It can be useful to know about a potential therapist’s training and qualifications, so I have provided some details for your information. However, it is perhaps equally important to know that people who work with me describe me as friendly, warm, compassionate, honest, accepting, down-to-earth, and trustworthy.

What I do:

I work with clients with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, mood swings, phobias, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive behaviour, difficulties in social situations, stress management, bereavement, and relationship problems. I have also supported people with the social and psychological effects of medical conditions such as HIV. Many of my clients come with a question about life - a feeling of stuckness, lack of purpose, longing for things to be different or a struggle to adjust to life changes. I provide individual therapy in my private practice to support people with these difficulties.

The beauty of clinical psychology is that therapists are trained to work from a number of therapy models which allows for an integrative approach with therapy being created anew for each and every individual.

I have experience of working with individuals using a range of specialist therapeutic interventions, guided by the current evidence base. The approaches that I draw from include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness Approaches, and Solution Focused Therapy. I am also mindful of the impact families and wider social systems can have on an individual and the importance of understanding psychological problems within these contexts, and therefore I also value the importance of approaches such as cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), Systemic Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I am a creative person and feel it is important to be flexible, adapt models and tailor approaches to meet the needs of an individual and their context.

Most of my private clients receive short- or medium-term therapy at a frequency of one session a week, or one session a fortnight. These sessions may take a more structured approach with a particular problem or goal that an individual would like to work on. However, sessions can also be far more explorative in nature, for example examining stories we tell ourselves, and our relationship patterns. Such work can help shift patterns we continuously get stuck in to give renewed creativity and interest in life and its possibilities.

I ensure that all my clients experience my private practice as respectful, compassionate and safe. To do so, I ensure that our work is collaborative, transparent and that you are put at the centre of your therapy. Alongside this, I ensure confidentiality and safeguarding policies as is required of me as a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Please make contact with me to discuss the issues you are experiencing and we can explore the ways I may be able to support you.

Further information

What will happen?

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to ensure that I am able to provide what you are hoping for from therapy. You will then be invited to an initial assessment session which will involve exploring the difficulties you may be facing and coming to a joint understanding of why professional help has been sought and consideration of what change may look like, ultimately establishing meaningful goals for our work together. This will help us to work out how many sessions will be needed for our work together to be successful.

From my experience, I recognise that living with mental health problems and various other difficulties can be overwhelming and have a significant impact on a person’s wellbeing, working life, relationships and outlook for the future. As such, working with me will always be driven to support you in moving towards your preferred goals.

Most of my private clients receive short- or medium-term therapy at a frequency of one session a week, or one session a fortnight. This could be any number of sessions between 6-24 sessions or more if necessary.
