About me

I am a BACP registered counsellor offering face to face counselling sessions from therapy rooms in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells.  I can help you with anxiety, depression, relationship/family problems, self-esteem issues, bereavement and other forms of loss.

My approach is integrative, which means that I bring together elements of several different psychotherapy approaches.  These include the person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential. My practice is also informed by my training in transactional analysis.

I take the view that there is no single model of counselling and psychotherapy that fits all.  This is why I adopt the integrative approach as enables me to counsel in a way that is uniquely tailored to you and your situation. It allows me look at the bigger picture with you: to explore how your present has been impacted by your past, and to utilise this awareness to help you to find a way forward.

Building a rapport with you and creating a place where you feel safe, validated and understood is of central importance. Through the counselling relationship I provide support and containment for overwhelming feelings; enable you to reach new levels of insight and understanding in relation to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours; and empower you to effect positive change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the NHS-affiliated Inter-Psyche Training Institute in Kent and at Wealden Institute in East Sussex.  I have an arts background, originally working in Museums and Heritage, and then working for the NHS for several years before training to become a counsellor.  I have a keen interest in all aspects of mental health and wellbeing and have worked as a volunteer counsellor for charities including Mid-Kent Mind and Sevenoaks Counselling Service.

Qualifications:

  • Level 6 Diploma in Integrative Counselling: Inter-Psyche Institute, Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy studies
  • TA101 certificate (Transactional Analysis)
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills: Wealden Psychology Institute

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
