About me

Hi, I am an accredited counsellor for children, young people and adults.

  • You can choose to meet with me face to face or online. Both modes give you a safe and confidential place to reflect on the difficult feelings or events in your life. We talk about what you want to talk about, at a pace set by you.
  • I aim to provide a nurturing and restorative place for you to build strength, understanding of relationships and events and find new ways to manage and make changes.
  • If words and talking are hard then art, craft, sand, lego, games or stories can be easier ways to think about painful or confusing feelings. I will always adapt how I work according to your age, ability and interests.
  • Your therapy can be for 6 weeks or a number of months. Short therapy usually focuses on recent or current challenges, longer therapy is likely if you are troubled by past difficulties. We will agree what is right for you when we meet at the start and review at intervals.

What next? Phone, text or email are all good ways to contact me!

Training, qualifications & experience

My way of working and experience

Children and young people: I have worked for many years with children and young people aged 5-18 in a school, charity and community setting covering issues such as family/school/friend and relationship changes or difficulties, bereavement/loss, and health challenges. These may have led to heightened anxiety/worries, anger, low self-esteem, sleep issues or low mood. I work systemically, this means I work in partnership with parents/carers, teachers and social/health workers. It is a shared and safe way to support children, with appropriate consent that doesn’t compromise the confidentiality of our sessions. The child’s voice and wishes remain at the heart of what we do. Therapy for young children is likely to be through the medium of play.

Adults: I have worked with adults in a community, agency and charity setting with family, work and relationship issues, bereavement/loss and difficult life events.

In addition, I have always attended and continue to attend regular shorter training/conferences/talks for my continual professional development e.g. ASIST (suicide awareness); WAVE trauma and the family; Lego based therapy.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Children: all work with children is face to face. I meet with parents/carers for an initial assessment for up to 45 minutes at a cost of £30.
