About me

Hi, I am a down to earth and approachable counsellor for children, young people and adults. I have over 27 years experience working with young people and currently work for a Bristol based charity and Youth Justice Bristol as well as running a private practice. I am experienced in working with clients who find that their feelings and behaviours can become challenging to themselves or others due to past trauma, increasing anxiety or, at times, for unknown reasons.

I have extensive experience in working with abuse and CPTSD and my work is trauma informed. I have also worked for many years with ADHD and Autism. Overlapping symptoms and a difficulty in gaining assessments for ADHD and Autism can make things seem impossible at times. I work with everyone on an individual basis, taking into account differing neurological needs.

People experience trauma, anxiety and depression in different ways and I believe that each client needs to find their own path towards recovery. Using an integrated approach allows me to draw on different techniques we can use to help you move forward.

As the client, I believe you know yourself best. You chose the areas and topics for each session which I will explore closely with you. A part of our collaboration will be to determine what you need from me and whether I am the right person to support you. I offer a free half hour consultation which can be face to face or via zoom where I can explain more about how sessions will work.

Work with young people

I have worked with children and young people for 27 years. This has allowed me to help young people work through difficulties such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, CPTSD, abuse, county lines, eating disorders, family issues, sexual exploitation, bullying, school refusal or school phobia and cyber bullying. Post lockdown, there has been an increase in the number of children and young people struggling with school, day to day life, anxiety and depression. I have helped young people get back into school or move forwards in their lives, overcoming feelings which can make them feel stuck.

I have extensive experience working with young people who face behavourial and emotional challenges due to past trauma and abuse. I am non judgemental, working to explore and understand the emotions and feelings behind the behaviours with the client. This will help us to find the right approach to help break damaging cycles of behaviour and build confidence to move forward.

I use talking therapy as well as a range of creative techniques (including sand tray, writing, art, puppets, sensory toys and EFT) to fit with each young person's likes and needs.

Work with adults

I also offer counselling to adults and have experience of working with anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, long term illness, relationship issues, family issues, LQBTQ+ issues and loss of confidence.

I like to work collaboratively with adults to gain the best insight into the needs, wishes, likes and dislikes of each client. We will develop a path for exploration together which may include talking as well as creative approaches to gain insights, process difficult or challenging emotions, managing triggers, learn coping skills and strategies and helping to reduce anxiety and depression.

I work in an open, friendly, nonjudgmental way to build trust and create a safe space where clients can be themselves and focus solely on their needs.

My treatment room is a calm, safe space that is located within a quiet area of Redland and in Central Bristol.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
